Nigeria's space ambition is gathering momentum as six indigenous base stations are being built to receive telemetry information for two planned sattelite launches later this year. The stations are being built and assembled wholly by Nigerian engineers.
They will track and receive data from the newly launched sattelites after they are deployed in their appropriate orbital location. With technical expertise gleaned from Surrey, UK Nigeria has built two indigenous sattelites: NIGCOMSAT X and the NIGERIA EDUSAT 1.
The EDUSAT 1 is a nano sattelite with a lifespan of just about 6 months (i think). NASRDA is collaborating with the Federal University of Akure (FUTA) to mass produce and assemble nano sattelites. Nigeria Edusat 1 was launched to the ISS several years back from where
..it was deployed to its appropriate orbital location. The National Space Research and Development Agency plans to launch at least a dozen of these nano sattelites for comprehensive coverage of Nigeria.

Images like this provoke coments like : " If we have all this why dont they use it against Boko Haram.?" in the comment section. Well..
They are used against Boko Haram. But unless you want to commit mass murder, they are used only in exceptional circumstances.
Why?
These weapons rain down fire that cover an entire 1x1 kilometre grid square. Hence their utility in populated areas is severely limited. They are only used when insurgents are caught in the open far from populated areas.
Some people tend to whine so much. They always tend to think Nigeria is the worst. Post some tragic or negative news event of another country, you will get a ton of Nigerians in the comment section go on and on about how much worse it is in Nigeria even when the subject matter
has nothing to do with Nigeria. Its a bizzare situation where Nigerians are so apt to jump and claim that Nigeria has it so much worse than anywhere else in the world.
Which is mind boggling because, despite its challenges Nigeria has it good in comparison with other countries facing simlar challenges. Yes we have problems, and we will be doing ourselves a major disservice by pretending otherwise, but Nigeria is holding it own together without
Not since the Cuban missile crises in 1962 or nuclear tensions in the early 1980s have the spectre of a potential nuclear war loomed so large.
At the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Putin warned the West that Russia had nuclear weapons by putting them on special combat readiness. Putin’s actions suggested that Russia was considering their use, even though actually launching them was a remote possibility.
Fast forward 4 months, NATO is now involved in a full fledged proxy war against Russia. Its not just about providing Ukraine with an array of different weapons, but they are clearly helping Ukraine with intelligence, some of which has been used to target Russian generals.
ST1- light tank and Vickers Mk.3 Eagle MBTs. The Nigerian military has grown rapidly in terms of capability in the past few years. Nigeria might struggle counter insurgencies/guerrilla warfare
but when it comes to conventional military might, the Nigerian armed forces is undoubtedly the largest, best trained and best equipped fighting force in the region, and in 2021 was ranked 4th in Africa.
Each time i post photos of military hardware you will be hard pressed not to see comments like " We have all this yet....." (i leave you to fill in the blanc). Defeating insurgent temporal attrition strategy requires a different class of weapons, with emphasis on intel gathering
It can seem like insurgencies are immortal. Although insurgent groups tend to be weak or fragile in the traditional military sense, they seem to be able to bounce back from even the most disastrous of events because they develop adaptive self-perpetuating solutions.
The means to defeating terror lies in strategy that will leave the group weaker on the long run. Remember we are not fighting a conventional war. Conventional wars are more destructive but they seem to end quickly. Its the complete opposite in unconventional warfare.
Niger is set to be the drone power in francophone Africa and second only to Nigeria in West Africa.
Niger became Africa's latest Bayraktar TB2 operators when it took delivery of six Bayraktar TB2 drones. The six drones arrived at Niamey Airport from a Ukrainian air cargo company via two flights on May 20 and 21.
This makes Niger the only country in West Africa after Nigeria with armed attack drones.
You know Africa is an emerging front for strategic competition when the U.S maintains two MQ-9 Reaper drone bases in Niger. One in Niamey and the newest one in Agadez.
