Yesterday I finally started my Survival genre watch! ๐ŸŽ‰

There's a reason this genre is my sweet spot. It feels like my entire life has been one long struggle to survive, in multitudes of ways. I can relate and connect to the struggles of these characters in a way I just can't in
many other genres. It really matters to me as a result.

Annnnnyway, I had a Paramount+ trial so needed to watch what I could now. I have a handful of monster things still to finish up but yep. Here we go!! ๐Ÿ‘

#KittenWatches Fights to Survive

1. The Astronauts. I've been binge watching this 10 ep kids show for 2 days. I LOVE IT!!!

Five kids sneak onto a spaceship scheduled to launch the next day, on a mission to find a strangely moving maybe asteroid. Their parents are working on the Promo poster for the astron...
project in various different ways. Suddenly they get locked in, and the launch countdown begins!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

The ground team try to stop the launch but - nope! Blast off!!! 5 kids. No adults. An AI called Matilda. No way to immediately turn the ship around!
Honestly this isn't how I intended to start this watch but I am SO GLAD I did! It started it with a bang and I enjoyed every minute of this show. The kids are superb actors. They really brought the emotion to the story, and without losing the sense of adventure & fun, either!
The writing was excellent. The effects good. I didn't expect it to be so fantastic! It keeps you twisting, turning & thinking, throughout. Suitable for kids who are OK with some fear & peril. Obviously many adults will enjoy this too - case in point! Racial diversity is great!
I like what the show says about relationships, trust & self belief. I like the teamwork & compassion to ppl different than ourselves.

Even the soundtrack is excellent!

It didn't let up till the v end.

I'm really disappointed Nick don't seem to be pushing for a renewal? WHY?!
Obviously any premise in which they actually survive this event for any time, is unrealistic as fuck. But I don't care. It was awesome lol. I'm really surprised it came from Nickelodean, it has a more serious feel than most of their stuff. But yeah. Brilliant! 8.5/10! ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘
2. #KittenWatches Die Hard.

Silly man leaves his shoes behind during a terrorist attack on the hotel he's in & spends the rest of the movie trying to replace them, whilst wading through & engaging in lots of male toxicity & arrogance, & failing to protect his poor feet.
The End.
Lol look. We all know this movie to some extent. It is what it is! Macho man cop protector type going up solo against a bunch of murderous terrorist thieves. It's full of xenophobia & horrifically bad European accents & men you want to slap so badly you can feel your palm tingle.
It's utterly unrealistic bullshit, every silly moment setting up for some big dramatic scene later in the movie.

It might just also be the only Xmas movie I'll ever love enough to actually watch each Christmas & it's frankly always the most ridiculous fun.

I have unabashed โ™ฅ
My โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… review of Die Hard on Letterboxd
3. #KittenWatches Airplane!

This movie is the most parody of parodies! It genuinely doesn't take itself seriously for one moment.

It absolutely made me laugh constantlyโ€ฆfrom the shock of wondering how the FUCK this was seen as a family movie in my home where we would all sit
together and laugh our way through it! The 80's were wild! ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜… This is not a movie I would show my kids though. It's chock block full of issues! I'm just going to list some that I saw, rather than spend hours unpicking them. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Gratuitous use of ptsd and of a sick child
Casual & at times heinous racism dotted throughout
Parodying of a child's illness in extreme & offensive ways
Horrific treatment of a war vet with PTSD
Parodies of suicide
Parodies of any minority they could think of
Grossly inappropriate things said to a child by a grown man
None of these things were done with, as far as I can tell, any input from the minorities being parodied - which is the central problem here.

Essentially I love this kind of ridiculous parody of disaster movies. Not an opportunity was missed to be as silly as absolutely possible
- even in the backgrounds of each scene and in the credits, etc - but, and here's the thing, it was done with absolutely no regard paid as to whether it was harmful. And that's something I just can't get behind.

I'd love to see a movie like this without all the issues.
I would likely laugh my ass off! ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ But this was much more a movie where I cringed looking back at my absolutely clueless love of it as a child. I will note that these 80's movies were far less puritan, which I frankly appreciate! (Boobs are just boobs, OK people? Some of us have
them, get over it.) I have rated this higher than I really whould really, just because I watched it so many times in youth and it helped me love this genre. It's also had a huge influence on that genre, which can't be denied.
I'll leave you with my favorite quote. Cos - it me! ๐Ÿ˜†

Passenger: Nervous?
Ted Striker: Yes.
Passenger: First time?
Ted Striker: No, Iโ€™ve been nervous lots of times.

My โ˜…โ˜… review of Airplane! on Letterboxd
4. #KittenWatches Con Air

With @DisMoviePod ๐Ÿ™Œ

Con Air is Die Hard on a plane with stereotyped convicts, asshole guards, women who are just there to be in danger, a very important bunny & a wrongly convicted hero white guy. It's a movie for which you need a huge dose of both
suspended disbelief & tolerance for it's many flaws & problematic content... or to be really quite intoxicated - but when you have one or both of those things, it's a ridiculously fun watch!

๐Ÿšจ Content Warnings ๐Ÿšจ

- Physical abuse of a woman by a prisoner

- Attempted rape
- Grooming Triggers

- Racist slurs and sentiment throughout

- Transphobia and transphobic slurs (To expand on this, I will say it feels like kind of a mixed bag here. There is a trans femme prisoner who is written with a lot of tropes - however, the other prisoners and even the
cops entirely accept her to be female, & don't appear to judge at all.

I am not trans and it's not my place to decide where this stands on whether its good or bad rep or simply, both, so I'd love to hear from trans people as to your take! ๐Ÿงก)
My โ˜…โ˜… review of Con Air on Letterboxd
5. #KittenWatches Into The Storm

If what you want out of this movie is tornadoes that utterly destroy a town top to bottom, and characters you don't super care about being mercilessly killed by said tornadoes, you're gonna enjoy this movie! (It works for me! ๐Ÿ˜‰) Movie poster showing a torn...
However, it's undeniably not either in the category of epic, nor "so bad it's good". It just kinda, is. And it takes itself too seriously for that with it's epic soundtrack & serious storylines.

Frankly this is a poorly done Twister. The storyline and plot elements are similar
enough that you just can't not compare them - which doesn't go in this movie's favour. All the charm of Twister (one of my favourite movies!) is gone, and it just feels lacking as a result! Sadly, there are also no flying cows! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

But the fairly decent main cast manages to just
about carry it anyway - and if you're like me, you sure will enjoy the great destruction moments, and shit being chucked around by the tornadoes. Even better, you get a firenado! ๐Ÿ™Œ And goddamn (!!!) they are an impressive feat of nature, my terrible fear of burning aside! ๐Ÿ‘€ ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
My โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… review of Into the Storm on Letterboxd
6. #KittenWatches Fire Twister!

Eco activists get caught up in a bombing of an eco fuel company, which creates a self fuelling firenado! ๐Ÿ™Œ

They decide, whilst being regularly shot at, that it is their job to "hunt down and kill" the fire twister! ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐ŸŒช

Best. Bad. Movie. Ever.
Destroy it all, sentient fire tornado! Destroy. It. All.

Omg they're on a roller-coaster and the firenado is chasing them!

This is fucking epic!!!

(how is there not a gif of this scene omg! ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜‚) Everyone runs from explosio...

I repeat! We have a flaming axe to the chest! ๐Ÿ™Œ

I am applauding. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘
(Yes. I really LOVE a so-bad-it's-good disaster movie OK? So sue me! Needless to say, if you do too, you should stop whatever you're doing and go watch this movie! ๐Ÿ˜‚)

My โ˜…ยฝ review of Fire Twister on Letterboxd
7. #KittenWatches Air Force One

This one is an old favourite. I love this kind of smaller scale disaster story!

Air force one is hijacked mid flight by terrorists, with the president & his family on board. Literal Hijinks ensue. (along with a too hefty dose of blind patriotism) Air force one movie poster....
I won't get into the politics here. They're both infuriating at times & also idealistic compared to our reality. It's a wee bit ouch.
That said, this is otherwise a perfectly fun movie, w/ a decent cast & lots of action.
Die Hard on a plane with the president! What's not to love?
My โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… review of Air Force One on Letterboxd
8. #KittenWatches w/ @DisMoviePod
Continuing w/ mid-air terrorism, we have Flightplan.

Here we have a genuinely brilliant plot idea. A mother & child get on a plane, the child disappears & an entire plane full of ppl never saw her & gaslight the mother that she was never there. Movie poster shows a close ...
The premise seems to intend to pull us in too. Was the child really ever there? Wasn't she?
It could've been absolutely terrifying if they'd been as effective in execution as The Invisible Man (2020) was. The scenario itself sure is & there are moments you really feel that terror Jodie Foster's character an...
as Jodie Foster does her best to carry this movie, and does a bloody admirable job at it, too. ๐ŸŽ‰

The terrorists plan doesn't really ever quite make sense to me though, because you couldn't ever presume every passenger wouldn't remember the kid! (Particularly the other
kids. I actually have an axe to grind there... But I won't do so, to avoid spoiling the movie!) And to believe that not a single passenger would seem to even care is just too much. This and various other plot holes did make it really difficult to truly drop into the horror of the
scenario. I also picked who the villains were almost immediately, which was both satisfying & disappointing.

I could've happily done without a really racist subplot wherein suspicion fell on the most obvious passengers (if you're a xenophobic/racist asshole) - the Arab men.
๐Ÿšจ Content Warnings ๐Ÿšจ

- Gaslighting
- A child placed in peril
- Racism/xenophobia

My โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… review of Flightplan on Letterboxd
9. #KittenWatches The Invisible Man.

Since I mentioned it in the review above & technically it fits a survival watch better than monsters, I'm going to add it here & link over to where I live-tweeted this entirely traumatising/absolutely amazing movie!๐Ÿ‘‡
My โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… review of The Invisible Man on Letterboxd

Wow. Yeah. I just gave my first 5 star movie review. ๐ŸŽ‰
10. #KittenWatches The Book of Eli

I mostly enjoyed this movie, but found a LOT to unpack in it regarding both ableism & religion/morality. I've tried to do that somewhat in my quite long Letterboxd review, but couldn't without spoilers, so I will just post a link to it here!
๐Ÿšจ Content Warnings ๐Ÿšจ

-Religious triggers
-Sexual slavery
-Harm to animals
It starts off pretty strong, but soon kicks into heavily religious themes and propaganda, which ruin it for me. Denzel Washington carries it along well, as does Mila Kunis as Solara.

Full review here ๐Ÿ‘‡

11. #KittenWatches Goddammit, it's Man vs Bee.

Netflix taunted me with this show for a week, popping up reminders & ads. I can't stand Rowan Atkinson, but slowly they broke me down & made me want to watch.

And fuck my life, I binged it in one evening. ๐Ÿ‘€
It was utterly ridiculous. And ridiculously hilarious.

Please forgive me when I say, maybe you should watch this show. The bee is awesome. Root for the bee! ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ™Œ
Don't blame me, it was the non existent drugs I was on. ๐Ÿคž

Look, the world ended cos of insomnia and sleep deprivation, in the movie Awake (review coming soon!) - I can enjoy Rowan Atkinson for just one night, OK?
12. #KittenWatches This is the End

So there's a whole bunch of celebs, playing, basically, themselves. They're at a raucous party when the world suddenly ends - & shit happens.

Lots of improvisation made it into the movie, and frankly it looks like they had hella fun making it.
I sure had fun watching it!

(I also learned that 90's pop music in bed is bad for you.

... Guess who just totally fucked her back dancing in bed to the damn backstreet boys like a total weirdo?)

13. #KittenWatches Jericho

I was overly excited to share this with a friend because it's one of my favourite apocalyptic shows!

This is small town America, changed in an instant, when they spot a mushroom cloud over the nearest city.

This show always gives me shivers in those first moments, as you can imagine it being you. All the different reactions, just staring at a mushroom cloudโ€ฆ It's us. The back of a kid standing ...
I could go on forever about this show, so I'm going to just try & bullet point some thoughts.

It's a show w/ a lot of nuance. It's not without issues but it has some really great stuff in it - & does a decent job of unpicking humanities flaws and strengths.

It stays with you.
It has amazing disability rep. Bonnie is a deaf character played by a deaf actress - Shoshannah Stern. ๐Ÿ™Œ Her deafness is beautifully integral to the show. Bonnie is an amazing, well rounded character & her sarcasm is a delight. Her putting hearing people in their place is ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ”ฅ Shoshannah Stern as Bonnie ...A white man dressed as a co...
Many of her friends have also learnt sign language to speak with her instead of relying on her doing the work of lip reading. It would frankly impress me if this show was released NOW, never mind almost 2 decades ago!

It has really powerful, positive depictions of male emotion. Bonnie holds a rifle, point...Jake Green and brother Eric...
It has some interesting commentary on morality. On ethics. On cops. On the military. On who we want to be as people.

Jericho is a prime example of why men shouldn't be solely in charge, especially in a disaster, as it's very real depiction of how men would be in this kind of
apocalypse is deeply realistic & just as troubling. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

There are times in the show that governing bodies seem invested in letting people die. Yep. Also painfully familiar.
They use the bloody don't tre*d on me fl*g and that fucking pisses me off!

Season one is far the superior. The show was cancelled and then brought back after a fan campaignโ€ฆ but they short changed season 2 then cancelled it again.

Racial diversity is crap in this show.
๐Ÿšจ Content Warnings ๐Ÿšจ

(I really hope I'm not missing anything here as I kept forgetting to make notes!)

- Military torture tactics (s2)

- Some covid related triggers are possible, particularly relating to governments harmful choices.

- War triggers possible
Jfc I really do write too much about shit I really love or fucking hate. ๐Ÿ˜ณ
I do not even have the audience to justify this work. ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚
14. #KittenWatches Unstoppable

Runaway train turns explosive missile launched at rural US towns. Working class railroad workers fight the corporate bosses over the best way to stop it - and all based on a true story!

A perfect movie for all of us disaster addicts! ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘
It might be a bit predictable but it's super fun, action packed & you get to rage at self interested corporate bosses on the regular to boot!

It has lots of fun disaster movie tropes such as:

Inevitable personal dramas to be magically resolved by the fear

Rich, powerful men being shit and making wrong calls at every turn (as they absolutely would in reality).

๐Ÿšจ I will note that it infuriated me to see the fatphobia inherent in making the ONE fat man be the driver who let the train leave the station driverless... Because he
couldn't run fast enough to reboard the train after making the terrible call to leave the cab. ๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™„

Yes. I looked up the true story for you. You're welcome. ๐Ÿ˜‚โ€ฆ

15. #KittenWatches Panic Room with @DisMoviePod

I absolutely LOVE this movie. Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart are, as always, fantastic! The tension is great. The peril greater. The scenario truly horrifying for me, a claustrophobic. Movie poster shows Jodie Fo...
There's some really lovely camera work in this movie, amping up the tension further.

A few notes on the disability rep in this movie.

- The daughter has diabetes, which is used to further ramp up the tension, but it doesn't feel gratuitous at all, just like, hey, people have
diabetes and sometimes they're in danger and shit happens.

- There is a scene where she has a diabetic seizure. It's not hammed up or offensively done imo. It actually struck me as fairly realistic rep of a seizure.

- Trauma/fear doesn't cure claustrophobia for goodness sake!
(Neither does being an amazing mum and needing to take care of your kid.)

The opening scenes of the movie clearly show that mum's claustrophobia is fairly severe, so it seems a hugely missed opportunity to not see that dealt with & managed throughout the movie.
Final note. Urgh. That scene with the cops was painful - especially as a survivor of domestic abuse. Let's face it - this is Copoganda. It's how cops WANT to be seen & how we wish they were, but it isn't how it is in reality. Cops don't care about women in peril.
Truth is they're often the ones PUTTING women in peril. ๐Ÿ˜ค ๐Ÿ’”

Both of us found it a truly upsetting scene to watch as two women, on multiple levels.

My โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… review of Panic Room on Letterboxd
16. #KittenWatches Oxygen.

I am not sure why I, a claustrophic with abuse triggers beneath that phobia, have decided to watch this movie, but here we are. I'm going in.

I'm fuckin scared.

A woman wakes up stuck in a med pod & needs to get out before she runs out of air.

Jesus, it's already horrifying. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜…
*cryogenic chamber. Get it right, me!!!

She is badass at working through her panic. So far. Just as well.

I'd be losing my shit bad.
๐Ÿšจ Spoiler. ๐Ÿšจ

Ah. Views of her pretty fingernails.

I know what's coming. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
This actress is pretty amazing! Really carrying it so far!!!

I saw something coming and I'm proud of myself lol. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘
๐Ÿšจ Spoiler ๐Ÿšจ

I can't tell what's real at all. On numerous levels. This is really clever!

Oh BTW the dubbed voices are really really well acted too. Thank fuck, because I didn't have the brain to handle the French today & this is a movie that would be ruined by bad dubbing!
There is very little I can comment on without spoilers that would fuck up someone's enjoyment of this movie.

But I'm really enjoying this!

It's brain twisting in the best of ways.

There's some incredible camera work at times too! And wow, Mรฉlanie Laurent brings the emotion!
This went in directions I absolutely did not expect, as well as a few I did.

This movie has kept me guessing all the way through, forming theory after theory.

It's not without it's imperfections but imo it is underrated. Really decent watch! ๐ŸŽ‰
Wrote my little live tweet of Oxygen up into a proper review! ๐Ÿ‘‡ This movie is still turning around my head today!

17. #KittenWatches Survivors - The original BBC Terry Nation adaptation from the 70's.

I'm already in both covid trauma territory and personal medical trauma territory, just a few minutes into Ep 1 lol. It remains to be seen whether I'll continue this one or not, lol. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
Was this the show that made me obsessed with this genre? It's certainly possible. I remember watching it in my teens, and reading the book too, lol. Jolly reading for a kid, that! ๐Ÿ˜‚
I have decided that even though our govs were clearly out to kill disabled people during this pandemic, it's still a good thing it happened now & not in the 70's.
Cos omg, mistakes were made in this world, lol. Like, everyone is lining up right next to each other for a flu shot!
Oh I forgot the cheery DVD cover.

The acting is so awkward it's parody, but they don't seem to realise it. The kids are privileged asses who seem to think their father should choose his wife for them, rather than for himself. Cool, cool.

19. #KittenWatches Awake

The world stops sleeping and falls apart after literally one night of mass insomnia. Bunch of wusses, honestly. I've done days awake, and heroically have not actually tried to sacrifice any kids. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Lol. Movie poster: Gina Rodrigue...
As a decades long insomniac/painsomniac, I have to admit that this was a really decent concept for a movie, and outside of the norm. Done well, it could have genuinely been one of my favourite movies ever. Knowing what it's like to not sleep, the very idea of this scenario sent
shivers down my spine. (I mean, one of the characters says it, referring to army torture methods: "Sleep deprivation, it was torture". And yes. It is.

That's what I live with daily. Torture. So the idea of the entire world being suddenly afflicted with total insomnia? Eek.)
Sadly, the actual movie didn't live up to the concept. It leans too far into disaster movie tropes. (The apocalypse saves broken family relationships once again! ๐Ÿ™Œ). The passage of time is not always clear at all, which makes some passages of this movie really hard to follow.
My โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… review of Awake on Letterboxd

20. #KittenWatches 7500

There is added (totally realistic!) amusement by the Brits at the ridiculous security around the president, which made me laugh because it's so relateable - and of course, the Americans are (obviously) still the heroes, even in the middle of a terrorist attack on UK soil!
(Our SS guy, Gerard Butler, ends up RUNNING an SAS team on the spot.

Sure, Hollywood dudes. Of course that's how it would go. ๐Ÿ‘)

Yay the great American patriotism/mammoth ego! ๐Ÿ™Œ
It's ridiculous, full of US nationalistic bullshit and an even more nauseating hefty dose of patriotism than Olympus - with an added "out of the closet" joke between 2 straight men, that obviously doesn't land.
But I can promise you will get to see shit tons of action, and the blowing up of lots and lots of stuff.

29. #KittenWatches Moonfall #DisasterMovie with @DisMoviePod

This movie is a disappointing, hot fuckin mess. I say that as a lifelong disaster movie addict. It's like they removed every fun element from a standard disaster movie then bulked it out with endless, boring,
complicated subplots & needless characters they didn't make you care for.

Worse, the entire thing was way more complicated & confusing than it needed to be. And omg, it took itself FAR too seriously, especially for such abject nonsense. The cardinal disaster movie rule, broken.
I want to slap everyone who wrote and participated in this convoluted nonsense. Especially given it's offensively large budget!!! ๐Ÿ™ƒ

If Moonfall gets a sequel from it's genuinely terrible open ended ending, I give up.

On a painful note I have to mention that they evacuated the care homes. I can't even. ๐Ÿ˜ญ (If you don't get why that is heartbreaking & deeply distressing, you probably aren't disabled & probably trust that authorities would actually do that in reality. Some of us know better.)
I was literally so exhausted by the end of this movie that I wanted to cry. I can only hope I remember how bad it was, despite my memory issues, and never accidentally watch it again! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

It could have been good. It should have been good. I'm so sad it was epically terrible!

30. #KittenWatches Survivors, 1975 (BBC adaptation of Terry Nation book)

I have more complex feels here than I'm able to express in current health crashโ€ฆ so I'll just say that the story itself is fascinating but it's ruined consistently by a huge heaping of bigotry.

In the end, I couldn't even finish the last season. It was just too upsetting. I think I only made it so far due to crash.

Honestly? I would just skip it and watch the newer BBC adaptation of the same book, from the 2000s!

So - please do note the following content warnings! ๐Ÿ‘‡
๐Ÿšจ Content Warnings ๐Ÿšจ

Racism & xenophobia
Harm to animals
Sexual harassment and implied assault.

I have to score much lower than the story itself deserves, due to the sheer weight of bigotry contained. 1.5/5

Can you pick the red shirts from the survivors? Will there BE any?

It felt like the movie ended really quickly because even without much by way of characterisation and character development, it kept my attention nicely, celebrating the wins against my hated characters and the losses of my favourites!
I also really enjoyed the filming of it and the incongruent touches they added in throughout.

It's also surprisingly not without humour, and has a very recognisable main cast of decent actors.

I remember often sitting as a family and watching this one - it's another movie that sparked my Special-Interest love for the disaster genre, so it holds a special place for me, for that!

rather than staying where authority told me to, lol. ๐Ÿคฃ ESPECIALLY when authority dude starts literally ordering people to stay - See ya dude, I'm out!
I have slightly mixed feelings about the handling of a fat woman in this movie. It's clear she was placed there to add DRAMA as they try to find a way to get a fat person through this disaster - obviously gratuitous AF. And there are many moments it falls into full on fatphobia.
However she also is a relatively nicely rounded character, important to their survival & the group didn't consider abandoning her when the going got tough. (yes, I did just give myself a Billy Ocean earworm, dammit. & yes, I mentioned it purely to ensure I won't be alone in it!)
Susan's obsession with the preacher is creepy as fuck, and so is how he touches her and how he talks to her. She's a kid, ffs. โœ‚

#MovieNight Movie poster shows a cruise...
As in the original, "Poseidon" is absolutely an "almost everyone is fucked" scenario - even more so, given the cruise liner this time is a damned floating skyscraper on its side. Absolutely huge in comparison to the original!

It's really pretty faithful to the original, actually, & the changes were mostly done in ways which corrected some issues with the original, like removing the misogynistic tint of hysterical women, the creepy pastor with his creepy relationship with a young woman,
The fatphobia, and making the cast a little less white.

However, they still seem to get off on ensuring the minorities (and ships staff) are wiped off the face of this planet. ๐Ÿ˜’
Captain Raymond Holt makes an appearance, which is hilarious to me. I love him and all, but I'm still not gonna trust his authority figure party line bullshit, and I am absolutely escaping that ballroom if I can!!!
I will say the scenario feels a little less realistic, given the rogue wave comes entirely out of nowhere, on a calm sea, & is ridiculously huge. But honestly who cares? I'm here for the wanton destruction, risk to life & epic fights for survival. ๐ŸŽ‰

Not as fun or as clever or hot as the first one, but I didn't see the twist coming & I enjoyed that! An enjoyable enough ride if you enjoyed the first movie.

Worst. Rollercoaster. Ever. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Also the least special effects ever, for a movie only made in 2008. It's not without redeeming factors though, & it has some charmโ€ฆ it just could have been so very much better!

This is a really intense movie, with some genuinely scary as fuck moments. It balances some epic & terrifying climbing scenes with more action packed ones - our heroes having to fight both the elements & the men hunting them!

61. #KittenWatches Lost in Austen, a British mini series.

62. #KittenWatches Ice Age

All you really need to know going in is that this movie is an animated Three Men & a Babyโ€ฆbut the men are a mammoth, a sloth & a sabre tooth tiger - & it's set in a world on the brink of an ice age, from which they try to flee!

It's taken me this many years and many rewatches to finally make that connection lol. So you're welcome for my impressively slow insight! ๐Ÿ˜‚

(Random fun fact...did you know we're technically still IN the ice age?)
The ice age where, by the way:

- Sid the sloth is non monogamous and totally promotes that lifestyle.

- The rhino's are totally gay. (But you REALLY shouldn't interrupt their dates!)

- Humans actually wanted to survive back then. Who knew? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
- Sabre tooth tigers in a pack are not just hungry predators butโ€ฆ actually, actively evil.

- Dodo's killed themselves.

- An ice age squirrel invented popcorn.

I am legitimately freaking out that twitter is about to die and I will lose the only thing keeping me hanging on... This community.

You all mean the world to me. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Here's my LinkTree for what it's worth given I can't understand the new platforms.
I also have accounts on most of the major messaging apps. If we chat a lot, I'm super happy to add you over there too - but I don't want to make things like my telegram/signal/WhatsApp too confusing with lots of people, or I'll be utterly lost. Just dm me? ๐Ÿ˜˜
(and there goes my shiny nice new pinned thread until this is resolved one way or another sigh)

I am so depressed.

So sick of this care co treating me like less than human.

So sick of their abject ableism they refuse to see.

So sick of my life and health meaning nothing to them.

So sick of them getting good ratings because everyone is afraid/unable to speak the truth.
These are people who choose to frame my complaining they arent allowing me to be CLEAN or to sleep as long as I might be able to, as ungratefulness or rudeness or my just not understanding the position they're in and how hard it is for them. ๐Ÿ™„

It's appalling & clearly ableist.
It is so toxic to see things that way instead of seeing people's desperation and tiredness and illness. Seeing that we deserve our care needs met and the absolute least we deserve when they don't meet those needs is understanding that they aren't, and a genuine apology.

In Feb, I started the biggest media watch of my life so far - Land Monsters!

Check out the first ๐ŸŽ‰ 243 ๐ŸŽ‰ items in my epic watch here! ๐Ÿ‘‡

I'm a little sad my reviews will now be split over 2 accounts but this post'll begin a new thread for a new acc! ๐Ÿ‘

One day I'd like to transfer the old reviews to Letterboxd, but memory is fickle so maybe as I go, I'll just have to rewatch the best & do so! ๐Ÿ‘ It's a chore, but someone has to do it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I ๐Ÿงก that this watch added a whole new dimension to my special interest in survival media!
244. #KittenWatches Marchlands

This is a creeping British ghost story with slow build tension & an amazing cast! It's set across different time periods, following 3 families living in the same house, that doesn't rely on jump scares/cheap tricks.

I Am Mother is *brilliantly* carried by the all female cast, which I always find enjoyable. Rose Byrne in particular did a great job at bringing "Mother" to life. The carefulness of her acting injected complexity into this intelligence!

It was actually difficult to decide whether to list this one under survival or dystopian, but it had just *slightly* stronger leanings to the dystopian genre. But do expect a strong survival and post apocalypse tint to the story!

Kicking off my dystopian watch, tonight I'm watching Only (2019). This is a new one on me, and was billed as post-apocalyptic - but was clearly always going to be an apocalypse that would cause deepening dystopia. Movie poster shows close up...

It's actually painful watching the womans' male partner do everything in his power to help her live. I wonder if this movie would have been written differently post covid?
