A plane crash in Mogadishu AAIA 🛫. I see a black thick smoke billowing up in the air from the South side of the airport.
If it was landing or just took off I do not know. Someone told me it is Jubba Airways and it has just departed. It is a 💔 in any case. #Salaamaat.
Please note I just saw a black thick smoke and people who looked shocked talked to me. I stay near the airport. There is nothing other than the smoke I'm 100% sure. And I am shocked to the core as I tweet.
إنّا لله وإنّا إليهِ رَاجعُون.
The plane was landing when it crashed. Therefore, it crash-landed. It came from Baidoa, I am just told.
Thankfully, no deaths reported so far. Injuries are obvious. @ATMIS_Somalia took over the crash site.
According to someone in the know, all the 33 passengers (+ the crew) have been evacuated from the plane to safety. The same someone is telling me it was #JubbaAirways#FOKKER 50 that crash-landed.
This is good news. الحمد لله.

To revamp the Somali government and its international partners' war on Al Shabaab with the intention to degrade and eventually defeat the terrorist outfit is one unequivocally stated paramount policy objective of @HassanSMohamud's second presidency.
It is therefore going to be Prime Minister @HamzaAbdiBarre and his cabinet's first and most vital job to come up with a realistic and comprehensive plan that includes religious awareness, or as President @HassanSMohamud put it "reclaiming our religion that Al Shabaab stole," ...
...stabilization of recovered areas such as deployment of police forces, timely and reliable dispensation of justice, delivery of formal education and medical services etc.
Yet another Somali Young Hero: A Tribute to Late Nasteh Dahir Farah (penned on June 08, 2008)
The sad news of the departure of Nasteh Dahir Farah from this world has been received with shock and dismay all over the world; all ages, races, and all professions.
The gloomy cloud that carried the horrible message had transcended the mediocre Somali clan identifications. A Somali Hero has Really Fallen.
Mr. Farah’s voice still rings in our ears.
His articulate, neat, unbiased, to-the-point, carefully chosen words, and informative storylines from the sea port city of Kismayo to the Bush House, London for some time, has been the desire and inspiration…
The restoration of diplomatic relationship between Somalia and Kenya is good step towards the right direction. But it is a bit naïve to deem it will last.
The misunderstanding between Somalia and Kenya has a name and it is called Jubaland.
The last two Somali presidents before Farmaajo butted heads with Kenya over Jubaland and the one after Farmaajo will likely do the same.
Unless there is a realistic and durable solution for Jubaland —and particularly for the disproportionately large, Ethiopia bordering Gedo region — armed and subsequent diplomatic kerfuffles will continue to flare up between the two neighbors.
1/4 - PARLIAMENT SEATS MARKETPLACE NOW OPEN
As per highly reliable sources, agents of some regional presidents started taking advance deposits from federal parliamentary aspirants 2020/1 after Dhusamareb 2. Some of them could be cover for Al Shabaab terrorist group. @UNSomalia
2/4 - This is dangerous because the next parliament will not only lack clan legitimacy, but parliament seats will be forbidden-expensive if not totally off-limits to those whose clan doesn’t control a region. Starting bargaining price is said to be $200K. @UKinSomalia
3/4 - Al Shabaab will for sure be fully in the game as it is well known that they’re interested in 2020/21 elections and that they do extremely favor indirect (selection by elders) model of election. AS will also likely use both their typical credible threats & lucrative promises
Rumors abound that @US2SOMALIA is pushing for a return to 2016/7 elections in Somalia.
Do not buy that for a second as this will: 1- Give Al Shabaab a role in the next Somalia government. 2- Al Shabaab is a threat not only in Somalia but also in the US. 3- @US2SOMALIA ≠ stupid.
4- Return to 2016/7 model of elections in Somalia will also deny Somali citizens the right to choose their leaders. 5- Throughout the history, US promoted and paid millions of dollars for democracy, human dignity and right for the small man to count.
6- In the upcoming elections in Somalia, there are more seriously interested parties than can be casually enumerated. And Al Shabaab is the most consequential and dangerous player.
1/5 “...it became apparent that our Office needs to speak in support of National Independence Electoral Commission (NIEC) Bill.”
Reads a memo (dated Jan. 27, 2015) I sent to @OmarSharmarke, the then newly appointed Prime Minister of Somalia.
2/5“This Bill will have its third reading on Wednesday, January, 28, 2015. Then after five days, it will go to the floor for a vote.” the memo adds.
3/5“Action (s) Required.
- A Press Release from our Office between Wednesday (01/28/15) and 2nd of February outlining the importance of the legislation (as a Vision 2016 cornerstone bill,) and urging the MPs to vote in its favor.” the memo continues.
