Sen. @TedCruz opined that SCOTUS' decision to legalize gay marriage was "clearly wrong" and stated that the high court was "overreaching" when it decided Obergefell v. Hodges. trib.al/VpLBdFC
"Obergefell, like Roe v. Wade, ignored two centuries of our nation's history," @SenTedCruz said during a recent episode of his podcast The #Verdict with @michaeljknowles.
Cruz has been a longtime opponent of gay marriage, a stance of which he was vocal about during his 2016 presidential run.
His recent comments come a month after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which had long protected abortion rights.
The ruling raised concerns over whether the Supreme Court would target other past decisions.
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas seemed to confirm these intentions in a separate concurring opinion questioning a number of the high court's past rulings, some of which related to same-sex relationships.
These included Obergefell v. Hodges and Lawrence vs. Texas—a 2003 decision in which the court ruled against the state of Texas regarding a 1973 law criminalizing the act of sodomy. chron.com/politics/artic…
