Right now, temperatures in London are the highest on record. Runways melt. Forests burn.

In Southern France alone, 20k hectares went up in flames, forcing 37k to evacuate.

The #heatwave in Europe is not normal.

Here's what we’re doing and how you can help 🧵 #melting
Firefighters in Southern France reached out to us. Ecosia searches will now help them plant native and fire-resistant trees just outside Marseilles.

This will make the area more fire resilient while protecting biodiversity and improving air quality.
🇧🇷 Since 2018, the Ecosia community has also supported firefighters in Brazil and funded their equipment.

🌳 Ecosia searches have financed + protected 13.8 million trees in fire-ravaged areas like Australia, California, Brazil, and Oregon.
🌆 And since 2020, we’ve been planting trees in cities, from L.A. to London, focussing on disadvantaged areas with low tree cover. During a heatwave, trees cool down neighborhoods by up to 8ºC by providing shade and bringing moisture back into the air.
Help us by keeping up your searches and spreading the word. Stay cool and be safe 💚🌳

Let's talk about survival rates for a minute. Because planting a sapling ≠ growing a tree.

Here’s what we’re doing to make sure your trees survive 🧵
💚 People first. We always work shoulder-to-shoulder with local communities.

🏔 We plant where trees once grew naturally.

🌳 We prefer native species that had millions of years to adapt to their local environment.

🧑‍🚒 We support firefighters who protect the trees.
ℹ️ Our local partners talk about trees in schools, villages, and on the radio.

🥭 The trees provide fruit, nuts, or oils, improve soil fertility, prevent erosion and replenish water supplies. This gives communities a powerful reason to take care of them.

Commitment #2: We plant and protect trees with local communities, focusing on native species and long-term survival. Picture of two men tending to tree seedlings
We’ve just planted our 150 millionth tree! And that's only counting the trees that survive for more than three years.

How do you know we’re doing that properly?
First, we partner with local organizations after a strict selection process, so we always work with people who know the area and will be around to make sure the trees live a long and healthy life.

We run a massively carbon negative business.
Carbon neutral is so 2010! We’re proud to say Ecosia is a carbon negative business, and we believe other businesses should reduce their carbon emissions instead of trying to compensate them with credits.
With the trees we’ve planted thanks to your searches, we’re actively removing CO2 from the atmosphere. And none of these 150 million trees will ever be used for offsetting.

BREAKING! 🚨 We just published our second Regeneration Report for 2021 laying out exactly how we’re contributing to the solution to climate breakdown and the 6th mass extinction. Here are the key facts and figures from the report:
We have committed 100% of our profits to tackling the problems of climate breakdown and biodiversity loss. Forever and ever. We work for you and for the planet, not investors.
Our solar panels produced enough electricity to power both your searches and cover our partner’s energy requirements with renewables nearly five times over. This means we’re a carbon-negative company who are actively putting renewable energy back into the grid.

This week is mental health awareness week in the UK, and a good time to talk about climate anxiety! With more and more scary news and a lack of action from world leaders, we often feel helpless about the climate crisis. So what can you do to protect your mental health?
1. Know when to take a break
Fighting climate change is a marathon, not a sprint. If you’re feeling stuck in a loop of terrifying videos, or arguing with trolls in the comments… switch off the news or deactivate notifications for a while.
2. Inform yourself offline
While the amount of information available online can feel overwhelming, a book can help you focus on one topic — and will give your eyes some welcome time away from the screen!
