Williamsburg based family services and special needs residence agency and it's manager, Israel Tropper, sued for sexual harassment and retaliation, but suit later dropped after vicious fighting in court.
Alleged victim claims Tropper bragged about women being attracted to him and wanting him to perform hypnosis on them at his previous job, and asked to hypnotize her and assured her that if he asked her to take off her clothes the hypnosis would stop working.
Complaint alleges that when alleged victim complained to Chani (director) & Irwin Schindler (CEO) she was told to stop making a big deal, that it was locker room talk, despite Chani Schindler admitting that there had been other incidents of tropper acting inappropriately.
She alleges that she faced retaliation in the form of reduction of firing from one position, and workplace conditions being deliberately made intolerable. Notably she claims that Adam Lancer, General counsel for @OHELFamily, conducted the investigation that quickly found nothing.
She also alleges that employee handbook illegally stated that harassment between coworkers wasn't the responsibility of Pesach Tikvah to handle, in violation of NYC's human rights law.
She further alleges that Chani Schindler repeatedly made comments referencing sexual abuse/harassment victims and claiming that they really wanted it for various reasons including their attractiveness.
After notifying CEO Schindler officially by letter through her lawyer, Tropper, who someone saw the letter, sued first her lawyer then her in what she claims was an attempt to retaliate against her and silence her.
Complaint is too long to excerpt, but here are links to both dockets:
Therapist David J. Nyer put together this kol koreh of 200 rabbonim who endorse direct reporting of sexual abuse to authorities. This list was originally published in 2015, and was re-published this past Pesach in the special Pesach issue of Mishpacha q/ additional signatures.
Notably absent from this kol koreh are the signatures of any one of the members of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah of Agudath Israel of America @AgudahNews.
This kol koreh is modeled on the same psak that underpins Agudah's own psak on reporting sexual abuse, but @AgudahNews took it a step further and required the consultation of a rabbi before reporting sexual abuse, something this kol koreh acknowledges as a crime.
I've been getting calls for years about a certain doctor in Boro Park who has sexually assaulted more women than I can count. It's something of an open secret that he's a sexual abuser and yet no one in power does anything about it. The victims I talk to are all scared to report.
A few years ago one victim posted on FB about being abused by him and looked into pursuing a case. She had aged out of the statute of limitations. Another woman who saw the post tried coming forward to the DA but after a former NY assembly member got involved the case fell apart.
Every day that the Adult Survivors Act isn't passed, the one victim who's ready to come forward isn't allowed to. Every day that passes without the ASA, this doctor abuses more women. The day this bill passes she can expose him in court.
Spring Valley LCSW Daniel Dresdner is being sued for allegedly sexually abusing 2 patients. Dresdner allegedly forcibly touched them and rubbed his penis against them to completion, and with one of them while she was incapacitated due to seizure/dissociation.
He also allegedly engaged in violence against one of them, punching her in the mouth so hard she required a bone graft and replacement tooth impact.
According to his LinkedIn he has worked previously at Westchester Medical Center, North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center, Bais Ezra, Bikur Cholim, and HASC.
Internal reporting doesn't work, and if you need any evidence of that I'll send you the list of CVA cases against Agudah, Camp Agudah, Torah Temimah, Ger Yeshiva, Bobov, Satmar, Mogen Av, Ohel, Ohel, Ohel, Chai Lifeline, Hamaspik, Kranczer, etc. All it does is lead to coverup.
In 2013 Yossi Kolko, nephew of prolific child rapist Yiddy Kolko, started raping a child in lakewood. He raped him in camp then came back to Lakewood and raped him for a few more months. The kid finally disclosed to his father who being a good Lakewood man went to beis din.
The beis din found Yossi guilty paskened that he couldn't be a rebbi anymore and had to go to 12 weeks of therapy. He stopped going after 6. The father went back to the beis din to get them to enforce their psak and they told him they had no power to do that.
Shifra Yocheved Horowitz, a victim of Chaim Walder's, was found dead in her apartment of an apparent suicide. She reportedly was extremely affected by Walder's suicide and took her own life. After two days out of contact with her friends she was found dead.
This is the consequences of not believing survivors and taking their allegations seriously. This is what happens when a community fights so hard on behalf of an abuser and ignores the consequences to their victims. Her death is not only a tragedy but a crime.
Every day survivors of sexual abuse die by suicide because they aren't getting the support they need from the people around them, because they're told they're liars, opportunists, not tznius, or because they're dismissed by their community for not fitting the mold.
