1/13 A thread of my original conspiracy content. Below are examples of how consumed by conspiracism I was. I was no longer repeating CTs from other CT influencers. I was actively a part of that world and either creating or adding to the existing lore. #TinFoilConfessions🧵 Image

13/13 "Reality Is Relative" was my last EP released in 2016. After this I was really starting to struggle with my world view. Within two years I was completely done and out of the rabbit hole. brentleeregan.bandcamp.com/album/reality-…

Comedy, Conspiracy & Current Affairs with Sooz Kempner

Our conversation with @SoozUK was a delightful journey through the realms of comedy, conspiracy, and current affairs. Sooz, an accomplished comedian, actor, and singer, shared her experiences in theatre, including her roles in various plays and her remarkable singing talent. Neil Sanders and Brent Lee expressed their admiration for Sooz's performances, setting the tone for a warm and engaging discussion. As the conversation progressed, we ventured into the topic of conspiracy theories, particularly those surrounding the 9/11 attacks.

Sooz Kempner recounted her deep dive into 9/11 conspiracy theories in 2011. This led to a broader discussion about the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the involvement of figures like Osama bin Laden. Throughout the conversation, Sooz demonstrated a keen understanding of the complexities surrounding these events and the various narratives that have emerged over the years. Her insights provided a valuable perspective on the ways in which conspiracy theories can be both compelling and misleading.

In addition to discussing historical events, Sooz Kempner shared her personal encounters with conspiracy theorists on social media. She described the challenges of debunking false claims and the resistance she often faced from believers. This aspect of our conversation highlighted the pervasive nature of disinformation and the importance of critical thinking in navigating the digital landscape. Sooz's ability to balance humor with serious commentary made for a captivating interview, shedding light on the intersection of comedy and conspiracy in contemporary society.

Mike Wendling on Disinformation and Extremist Groups

Our interview with @mwendling, a national digital reporter for the BBC, delved into the complexities of disinformation and the rise of extremist groups. Mike shared his observations on Joe Biden's political performance, contrasting his previous debates and public appearances with the present. The discussion quickly shifted to the role of social media in the spread of disinformation, highlighting how platforms can both reflect and distort public opinion. Mike emphasized the pitfalls of using social media metrics as a barometer for journalistic accuracy, underscoring the need for responsible reporting.

One of the key topics we explored was the emergence of far-right groups like Patriot Front and Proud Boys. Mike Wendling provided insights into their contradictory characteristics, appearing both as lighthearted entities and serious threats to democratic governance. He recounted his time spent with these groups, including encounters with their transgender spokesperson, Yv Dixon. This nuanced portrayal challenged the monolithic view often presented in mainstream media, revealing the complex identities and motivations within these organizations.

The conversation also touched on the influence of prominent figures such as Alex Jones and David Icke on political discourse. Mike discussed Alex Jones's evolving audience and his role in shaping conspiratorial thinking. We examined the impact of conspiratorial rhetoric on political engagement, using examples like Dominic Cummings and Donald Trump. Mike's expertise in disinformation provided a valuable lens through which to understand the intersection of media, politics, and extremist ideologies. His insights underscored the importance of critical media literacy in an era rife with disinformation.

1/13 #TinFoilConfessions a 🧵

In 2003 I fell headfirst into the rabbit hole via 9/11 conspiracy theories and was eventually consumed by a 'cult-like ideology' for 15 years.

I crawled back out in 2018.

2/13 In 2021 after seeing the real harms of this ideology & how misunderstood it was, I decided to share my experience of going down, living in & coming out of the rabbit hole.

The first step was confronting the community I shared 15 yrs of my life with. That went as expected. Image
3/13 That ruckus caught the eye of one of my oldest friends in the movement @TruthSeekah - so he invited me for a friendly chat on his podcast. It was my 1st time speaking publicly and I was a bag of nerves. youtube.com/live/DrEU4UoOT… Image
