The geometry nodes hexmap generator (based on @stavridisc's work) is now available for free via gumroad gum.co/gnhexmap #b3d #blender #geometrynodes
here's a couple of stills, currently there's 5 example color palettes but they can be extended/edited in the materials. This uses a simple nodegroup (8 slots) to switch between color ramps but more can be added with easily ImageImageImageImage

you can create a similar setup with @erindale_xyz 's hexagon world tutorial
though the difference here is that this uses dual mesh / extrude for the baes grid which greatly simplifies the creation process / nodes setup
Definitely still a lot of features I wanted to add to for this generator but I will be calling it "done" for now as I have been dragging it for way too long, aka at this state I guess I might as well call it a demo :D
I will still be updating this but probably not anytime soon
do note that you will need to use Blender 3.2+ for this
It's not shown in the clip, but the modifiers stack does include the bevel which you can adjust to round off the tiles

you can quickly get a different set of dots by changing the 'distance metric' from the voronoi texture node
you are not limited to just those shapes though, as you can replace the gradient with your favorite distance function, such as a heart ❤️ (obtainable from #b3dsdf)
