1/ PSA for #AAJA22! This year, registration is a *three-step process* due to COVID-19 protocols. You MUST complete steps 2 and 3 BEFORE you get on-site. Here's how: 🧵⬇️ aaja22.org/registration
2/ If you already booked your tickets/hotel/plan to attend, you've probably finished step 1. Check your inbox for *RSVP on Event Farm* from "aaja-2022-national-convention@eventfarm.email" ASAP. You must fill out the Event Farm form to fill out your profile so we know who you are.
3/ Step 3: You must register your CLEAR health pass because vaccinations are MANDATORY for #AAJA22. #AAJA22's event code is EFATTENDEE403. You MUST link your CLEAR pass with your AAJA registration 24 hrs before convention begins. Download CLEAR here: clear.app.link/fkLhlYyIzgb
4/ If you have NOT or CANNOT complete your vaccine card upload to CLEAR, please bring your proof of vaccination and an official ID for registration on-site. Proof of vaccination is REQUIRED to attend and you will not be accepted on-site without it.
5/ Re: Gala and Little Tokyo registration: Please bear with us as we sort thru overwhelming demand. We are overbooked and are trying to accommodate as many of you as possible. We are blown away by such a great response. AAJA will reach out next week.
6/ There is currently a waitlist for both Little Tokyo Night and the Gala. If you are already registered for Little Tokyo Night, our bus capacity is limited so please arrange private transport to get there.
7/ If you’re experiencing any issues, email support@aaja.org and a member from our support team will assist you. Here's our FAQ page: aaja22.org/faq-1

As coverage of the Tokyo Olympics continues, AAJA's Pacific Islander Task Force urges media organizations to be mindful in their reporting not to perpetuate stereotypes about Indigenous Pacific Islanders in headlines and coverage. (2/11)
DON'T use harmful language that conjures & perpetuates stereotypes and the exoticization of Pacific Islanders (i.e., “the naked Tongan”). Exotification contributes to the “othering” of Pacific Islanders, who are Indigenous peoples with a long history within the American diaspora.
STATEMENT: AAJA Encourages Newsrooms to Empower AAPI Journalists and Their Expertise
Since the shootings, we have heard some deeply concerning problems in newsrooms across the country, including in Atlanta: “Are you sure your bias won’t show if you cover the Atlanta shootings?”
We have heard from broadcast members — and from members across newsrooms who volunteered to cover the Atlanta shooting — who have expertise, language skills, and the cultural competency in the community, but were not assigned.
AAJA urges newsrooms to offer coverage opportunities to AAPI journalists who are uniquely positioned, sourced and skilled to cover the unfolding news — and who want to be a part of it.
