Jackie Estrada and Phil Lemarr start off the proceedings with a warm welcome to the Eisners
Time to get started!
First presenters are Bill and Kayre Morrison
Starting with Best Lettering, the winner is Barry Windsor-Smith, and accepting the award is Gary Groth.
Next award is best digital comic. The award goes to Snow Angels by Jeff Lemire and Jock.
Best Webcomic goes to Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe
Next presenters are Neil Gaiman and Frank Miller
The Eisner for Best Writer goes to James Tynion IV, who has had quite a busy writing year, we can all agree!
Next up is Best Writer/Artist (with a pretty stacked category) goes to Barry Windsor-Smith, with Gary Groth accepting the award.
Gary Groth shares a moving speech about his five decade long friendship and professional relationship with Barry Windsor-Smith, who has said that Monsters will be his last comic.
Next up is cover artist, which goes to Jen Bartel. Jamie S. Rich runs upstage to accept the award "since no one else is doing it... and I love her, she's fantastic."
Neil Gaiman and Frank Miller leave the stage, and Henry Barajas is up at the podium.
Best Publication for Early Readers goes to Chibi Usagi: Attack of the Heebie Chibis by Julie and Stan Sakai!!
"Of all of the Eisners I've won, this is the most significant because it was truly a family affair," Stan Sakai shares. Julie Sakai thanks the whole team and Stan "who could draw lipstick on a pig" and make it look good.
Best Publication for Kids goes to Salt Magic by Hope Larson and Rebecca Mock. #eisners #sdcc
Best Publication for Teen is up next, and the Eisner goes to Shing Yin Khor!
Khor sent in a speech that ended with, "If history has failed us, then fiction must save us."
Best US Edition of International Material goes to The Shadow of a Man by Benoit Peeters and Francois Schuiten, translation by Stephen D. Smith.
The Eisner for Best US Edition of International Material - Asia goes to Lovesickness: Junji Ito Story Collection by Junji Ito, translation by Jocelyne Allen. A message is being read from Ito, "I have a strong attachment to this work, and I still cherish it very much."
The Eisner for Best Humor Publication goes to Not All Robots by Mark Russell and Mike Deodato Jr.
Mark Evanier is here with Athena Finger (Bill Finger's granddaughter) to present the Bill Finger Excellence in Comic Book Writing Award, which highlights overlooked work in the comics community, to Bob Bolling (who just celebrated his 95th birthday) and Don Rico.
Next presenter is Amy Chu, announcing the Best Archival Collection/Project-Strips...
(Alongside Phil Lemarr, of course).
The Eisner for Best Archival Collection/Project - Strips goes to Popeye: The EC Segar Sundays vol. 1 by EC Segar, edited by Gary Groth and Conrad Groth.
The Eisner for Best Archival Collection/Project - Comic Books goes to EC Covers Artist's Edition edited by Scott Dunbier.
The Best Publication Design award goes to Marvel Comics Library: Spider-Man vol. 1: 1962-1964
The Best Graphic Album- Reprint award goes to The Complete American Gods by Neil Gaiman, P. Craig Russell, and Scott Hampton
Bob Clampett's daughter Ruth Clampett has taken the podium to award the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award to Annie Koyama.
Ruth Clampett has just been awarded an Inkpot Award by Jackie Estrada.
The Best Penciller/Inker Eisner goes to... Phil Jimenez for Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons!
Jimenez shares a moving, teary speech about how Historia is a tribute to Perez and Will Eisner and Kelly Sue Deconnick. He reminds everyone to take time to mentor others.
Matt Wilson wins the Eisner for Best Coloring!!!

Sana Takeda wins for best painter/multimedia artist!
Now it's time for the Hall of Fame inductees! To introduce the nominees, we have Denis Kitchen.
The Judges' Choices include Marie Duval, Rose O'Neill, Max Gaines, Mark Gruenwald, Alex Nino, and P. Craig Russell.
Alex Niño shares about how he was just a little boy in the Philippines when he first found his love for comics.
"With the help of my family, I pour my heart in every line, in every drop of ink," Niño says.
P. Craig Russell takes the stage as the last Judges' Choice of the night.
The Nominees for the Hall of Fame include Howard Chaykin, Gerry Conway, Kevin Eastman, Steve Englehart, Moto Hagio, Larry Hama...
Jeffrey Catherine Jones, David Mazzucchelli, Jean-Claude Mezieres, Grant Morrison, Gaspar Saladino, Jim Shooter, Garry Trudeau, Ron Turner, George Tuska, Mark Waid, and Cat Yronwode.
The first inductee of six is Howard Chaykin
The next is Kevin Eastman who calls this an "unexpected" honor.
The fourth elected inductee tonight is Moto Hagio, and her award is accepted on her behalf by Gary Groth.
The fifth inductee into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame is Larry Hama. Hama could not make it tonight, but has sent a speech. "I am gobsmacked, overwhelmed, and humbled," Hama's speech reads.
Oh our numbers have been mixed up! The (real) fifth inductee into the Hall of Fame tonight is David Mazzucchelli.
So far, the list has been Howard Chaykin, Kevin Eastman, Moto Hagio, Larry Hama, and David Mazzucchelli.
Our sixth and final inductee is Grant Morrison!
Morrison could not make it, though they have sent a speech to be read. "There's a part of me that will always be in San Diego for Comic Con."
Time for the Spirit of Comics Retailer Award, presented by Joe Ferarra. Ferarra takes a moment to honor Neal Adams.
Ferarra also takes a moment to honor all the comics retailers around the world and their work through this tough time.
The Spirit Award Judges are Jessica Wells, Gib Bickel, LaKisha Dubose, Barbara Kesel, Kethan Jones, and Lilah Sturges
The five finalists are Candice and David Craig at Blackbird Comics and Coffeehouse, Katie Pryde at Books with Pictures, Eitan Manhoff Cape and Cowl, Jon Goeku at The Comic Bug, and Amy and Jay Berent at Pulp 716.
The recipient of the Spirit of Comics Retailer Award is Books and Pictures in Portland, OR!!
Pryde takes the podium. "I am exceedingly proud to be up here as a woman running a store by myself, there aren't a lot of us," she starts.
But she also points out that this work isn't done alone. She thanks her staff, Douglas Wolk, and Jay Edidin.

The Eisner for the Best Short Story goes to Funeral in Foam by Casey Gilly and Raina Telgemeier, in You Died: An Anthology of the Afterlife
Now it's time for the award for Best Single Issue or One-Shot. And this award goes to Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazon by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Phil Jimenez.
The Eisner for Best Anthology goes to You Died: An Anthology of the Afterlife edited by Kel McDonald and Andrea Purcell.
The Russ Manning Promising Newcomer award will be awarded by Jeff Smith (who once won the award himself).
The nominees are Matthew Clarke for Hardears, Emma Kubert for Inkblot, Meredith Laxton for MPLS Sound, Luana Vecchio for Bolero, and Audra Winslow for Joe & Rus.
The winner of this year's Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award is Luana Vecchio for Bolero.
The next presenters are Jock and Skottie Young.
They present the award for Best New Series to The Nice House on the Lake by James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martinez Bueno.
"The Nice House on the Lake is one of the most personal comics I've ever written, and it's one of the most frightening," Tynion shares in his speech.
Skottie Young remembers Alan Grant, who was the first artist to look at Young's portfolio when Young was breaking in.
The Eisner for Best Limited Series goes to The Good Asian by Pornsak Pichetshote and Alexandre Tefenkgi.
A tie! For best continuing series, the first award goes to Bitter Root by David F. Walker, Chuck Brown, and Sanford Greene.
The second award for Best Continuing Series goes to Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and WErther Dell'Edera.
This is Tynion's third award this evening.
The Eisner for Best Adaptation from Another Medium goes to George Orwell's 1984: The Graphic Novel, adapted by Fido Nesti and published by Mariner Books.
Next up is the Eisner for Best Reality-Based Work, which goes to The Black Panther Party: A Graphic History by David F. Walker and Marcus Kwame Anderson.
This is David F. Walker's second award of the night.
Walker dedicates this award to the hundreds of Black Panthers who aren't here anymore.
The award for Best Graphic Memoir goes to Run: Book one by the late John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, L. Fury, and Nate Powell.
Our last scheduled award for the night is for Best Graphic Album - New goes to Monsters by Barry Windsor-Smith.
Groth reads Windsor-Smith's note, "The choice was no surprise to my publisher, but I was astonished... " Windsor-Smith shares how much of a gift it was to be able to finish the book, as 20 pages from the ending, his eyesight began to fail.
But with the help of doctors and different aids, he was able to complete this final book.
Jackie Estrada has taken the podium to wrap up the evening. Her takeaway for the night is "how much people love comics and doing comics. It's their way of life... and it's my way of life too."
