IMPORTANT: Do's and Don't when submitting your info for a UGC Opportunity - Things I've noticed and learned after reviewing 350+ portfolios for the recent opportunity I posted (THREAD 🧵🪡)
Disclaimer: Let us LEARN from this, please take these words constructively. I'm not here to bash or shame anyone, please don't take it personally. 💖
1. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS: I clearly said "Comment your portfolio link before 07/27" and yet my DM's were flooded. I prioritized selecting people that commented on the thread. Going through the messages is WAY too time-consuming.
2. PROVIDE WHAT'S ASKED: I asked for a portfolio link and said that it's a bonus if you have a Fashion UGC sample because clearly, this is for a clothing brand. Don't spam the thread with multiple links to your TikTok videos. Just send the portfolio link.
3. BE STRAIGHT TO THE POINT: As someone reviewing hundreds of portfolios, no I don't need to know about your story. No, I can't hop on a call because this is just the shortlisting phase. I just need a portfolio link
4. LACK OF VARIETY: A lot of creators said they do fashion or mental health but when I checked their portfolio there are literally 2-3 videos and none of which match the niche requested. Add MORE video samples! I've noticed A LOT of skincare and unboxing videos.
5. SHOWCASE YOUR EXPERTISE: Related to no.4, I added some creators that do have fashion and mental health posts on their TikToks even though it was not in their portfolio. BUT not everyone will do this! I just had a bit of extra time last night.
6. RENAME YOUR CANVA FILES: For the love of god, rename "Beige and Black Website" or "Pink and White Website" to your name! Pay attention to the small details.
7. CHECK PLAYBACK OPTIONS: Ah! A lot of the portfolios had automatic playback and some of them even had the music blasting! My first instinct? CLOSE THE TAB. I did re-open it again and viewed it, but MOST brands are not like me, they can just move on to the next creator.
8. BE FREAKING NICE: I'm sharing this opportunity with creators. Literally not gatekeeping my own deals. So please, be patient. Don't flood my DMs asking for updates. The brand will reach out to you directly. Don't ask for the brand's contact either - they asked me to do this.
9. IF YOU DIDN'T GET SELECTED, don't be rude to me. In all transparency, I could have just selected 5 people, but after my call with them, they agreed with the 50. And will just pick on a weekly basis. I'm not getting compensated for this.
10. SO FAR, I'VE HELPED 2 BRANDS secure creators. And they will be coming back to me for more. I have another brand that I'm working with, and as soon as I close the deal, I will ask the same thing - if I can share the opportunity with ALL OF YOU.
That's it! I'm hoping that you find this information helpful. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

1 - I created my portfolio on Canva, but I made sure that I HIGHLY customize it - I've seen 10+ portfolios yesterday that had the same color scheme and fonts. Switch it up to STAND OUT.
2 - 2 days ago, I posted an Instagram story and I tagged the brand to initiate conversation. LUCKILY, the person behind the Instagram account is the same person that hires content creators.
