It's week 3 of the twitter challenge with the irrational timeline...

It can only be week 3 of #colddm30!

If you've made it this far, you're using twitter better than 99% of other users.

Let's stay strong in week 3.

Here's your game plan for the next week:
In weeks 1-2 we built your confidence in dm'ing other accounts.

First breaking through the fear of dm'ing an internet rando

Then gaining insight from people 2 steps ahead of you
We made sure you got replies, as well as ignored messages.

Then we swept you right past that feeling of rejection

straight into the zone of:

"IDGAF"
So now that you 'DGAF'...

we're going after even bigger, more important accounts.

These guys may not have 100k followers, but they still have something better than you:
They have a bigger audience.

This means they:

A) are clearly doing something right
B) can get more eyes on your tweets

So here's the plan:

(follow along with me)
List the top THREE accounts who are where you want to be.

The bigger the better.

Here are mine:

@SahilBloom
@thedankoe
@Alexmathers84

Now, don't DM them.
Instead, list SEVEN accounts who you think have a shot at caching up with your top 3.

Your list of 7 will likely have ~10k followers.

The smaller the better.

This is your DM list.

Again, here's mine:
Didn't think I'd make it that easy for you, did you? ;)

You need to make your own list, not steal mine.
But there's a problem with this list...

As these guys are still pretty big, they'll be getting tonnes of DM's everyday.

Leading your message with:

"Hey, I really liked this thread of yours blah blah..."

isn't going to make your DM pop in their message requests.
To stand any chance of a reply, you need to be recognised.

Achieve this with consistent, interesting engagement on their content

Comment, quote retweet, and like their replies for a few days before dropping the DM

Good ol' fashioned courting.
A couple bonus things that will help:

- Have a profile picture that stands out
- DON'T CHANGE IT EVERY WEEK
- Contribute something valuable when you comment (don't just agree)
Profile views are good.

Likes are better.

Engagements are GREAT.
The more they've engaged with you

the more they'll recognise your profile

the more LIKELY they'll open your DM.

(and engage with it)
Now that you've built a little rapport on the timeline, it's time to hop into the DM's.

Come armed with your best tweets.

Or take one of these other ideas.
1/ Niche memes

Massively underappreciated on twitter in my opinion

They're easy to digest in a DM

And will likely get a response

(if they're funny AND relevant)

Here's one I've previously used that went down well:
2/ Unexpectedly relevant content

Found something useful in another niche that helped you out in your area?

Write a summary, then ping it to someone else who might benefit
There are unexpected parallels all around us:

Psychology ~= Sales
Nature ~= Productivity
Finance ~= Content generation

Find the connection, share the idea.
3/ Adding value

Written something that might help them?

Explained one of their ideas with a clearer metaphor?

Let them know.

(Note: correcting their grammatical errors is NOT adding value)
To summarise:

1) Find 3 accounts you aspire to be
2) Make a list of 7-10 people you think are headed in that direction
3) Court them

ONLY THEN

4) DM those 7 people with:
- Niche memes
- Unexpected relevant content
- Added value

This strategy WILL get you responses.
Starting from 0 and want to master the cold-dm?

You're in luck

Here's your free road map to becoming a master of the cold DM's in 4 weeks:

And to everyone keeping up with the #colddm30 challenge, let me know how you're getting on

@GuptaSayujya has already dm'ed 1394 people this week

I've dm'ed 4

We can't all be perfect
