The ‘education degree’ is totally meaningless. It explores ‘how to teach,’ and most of what is taught is either obvious or stupid. If you want history teacher, hire someone who has studied history, not someone with education degree ‘w/focus on history.’
A graduate student assigned to teach undergraduates gets basically no training at all. S/he gets maybe a couple days of what to do, and then is thrown in deep end of pool. This is b/c training comes only through doing, and some are good and others are not.
Spending years ‘studying’ how to do this is a colossal waste of time. Fact that people pay to be taught by people with no training but sound knowledge underscores this.
And private schools don’t require Ed degree, and usually don’t even want it. They want someone with a degree in Math/Physics/History/French - whatever. Something that shows real knowledge of the subject. They figure they can teach you techniques on job, but they want knowledge.

1/Seminal book on psychopathy is Cleckley's "Mask of Sanity." What makes it interesting is that it doesn't focus on hardened criminals. It describes the lack of conscience, but also the flat affect, need for intense experience to feel anything. One subject is female sex-maniac...
2/...another is young boy who always farts in closed cars (despite promising to stop) to make other people uncomfortable, which he finds amusing. Psychopathy in its more moderate forms seems to be around us all the time these days. Something about culture..
3/..that rewards narcissism (key component of psychopathy) drives much of it. So large numbers of politicians clearly fit the bill these days - think of someone like Clinton, who seems incapable of feeling shame. But also pornstars...

1/ Godard’s Vivre Sa Vie is a masterpiece with potentially relevant lessons for dissident artists. It’s clearly influenced by what Brecht called Verfremdungseffekte (distancing effects). Some elaboration…
2/Brecht employed distancing effects to remind audience in a playhouse that what they were watching wasn’t real. He didn’t want them to melt away into the drama, but stay alert, question action, think and draw conclusions..
3/ Now he was a communist, so that’s clearly not what we’re going for here. But in an age of mass distraction in capitalism, the technique of keeping viewers alert can be useful. So a few words on Godard’s film…

The Eurocrat: he comes from all over Europe, lives in Brussels where language is French, but he speaks stilted bureaucratic English that is bloodless, full of abstract, empty words. He wears trim suits (if not fat), horn-rimmed glasses, broad collars. Barely knows his own people.
He associates almost entirely with people who look just like him. When he goes abroad he only visits major cities where he can find his ilk. He is extremely self-satisfied, and views normal people like pawns to shunt around on a chessboard....
...He doesn't care if his policies cause real people damage. In fact, he might not even know. He is insufferably smug, while also being extremely dull. He is uncultured in sense of philosophy/literature, views knowing EU regulations as height of sophistication...

Most of the federal government exists to put on a reality show that enthralls the public and runs interference for the people behind the scenes actually calling the shots. Journalists are more often than not like referees in professional wrestling, pretending to think it’s real.
This is why you get a gay mayor from a town you’ve never heard of ‘running’ the Department of Transportation and taking long paternity leave. Because it isn’t real.
And this is why you have a POTUS way past his expiration date saying and doing things diametrically opposed to what he said when he was cognitively astute as a senator. Because it isn’t real.

When I doubted that Twitter would be able to force Musk to go through with the deal - get actual specific performance - people told me I was "out of my depth." This still is probably part of a negotiation process - but bad idea to think Musk hasn't done his homework. Looks bad.
This is really just the tip of the iceberg. All kinds of Twitter communications would become public in discovery, much of which is no doubt embarrassing. Would reveal political bias, efforts to manipulate user data, etc. Musk's emails would likely be about trying to finance deal.
Board/Management is really in a tight spot. Fiduciary duty to shareholders is to maximize value. Why it had to accept Musk offer in first place. Now it has to try to keep the deal for same reason. If it falls through, stock price falls...

1/ Short legal thread. There is tension b/w 1st Amendment right to free press and 6th Amendment right to fair trial. In most cases not problem b/c press ignores a trial. But consider Derek Chauvin. He was convicted before the trial ever started b/c press coverage. This isn't new.
2/ The original case that really brought out this tension was probably the Lindbergh kidnapping trial. Here you have celebrity pilot (Spirt of St Louis) who tragically loses baby. Right at this same time, broadcast media erupted in form of radio, and muckraking press was big..
3/ In courtroom, Richard Hauptmann never received fair trial. Press was literally snapping pictures with huge flashes during testimony, yelling out questions to lawyers, judge, witnesses and Hauptmann himself. Was a circus...
