I don't know what point these folks think they're making, but knock it off.

Monkeypox is not airborne. It is not an STD. It is spread through close contact (and *maybe* through fluids, TBD.) It is predominately affecting men who have sex with men, but not exclusively.
This messaging isn't that hard! If you're at risk, get a vaccine.
Monkeypox *can* be transmitted via respiratory droplets. (Just like COVID-19 *can* be spread through fomites.) But the overwhelming majority of cases came via close/skin contact amongst MSN.

Tweeting #MonkeyPoxIsAirborne is *not* *helping.*

Will idiots continue latching onto the fact that the affect community is predominately gay/bisexual men with multiple partners? Yes.

Should we start censoring useful public health guidance for those communities in hopes that maybe those idiots will stop? No.
Healthcare workers should obviously take precautions based on that theoretical risk. But this current outbreak is not airborne. Could that change in the future? Maybe. But, one more time: It is really important to send out fact-based public health advice.
"Although respiratory droplet transmission might occur, there is no evidence of airborne transmission as there is with COVID-19." science.org/doi/full/10.11…

Alex Berenson, who has managed to be wrong about virtually everything through the pandemic, is peddling some real bullshit today.
Causes of death for these doctors include lung cancer and stomach cancer. Another died after a battle with an undisclosed illness.

A tiny bit of research debunks the idea that there's a rash of vaccine deaths.
While we know that COVID-19 vaccines can cause mitocarditis, new research shows those adverse effects tend to be mild (uhnfoundation.ca/stories/new-st…) and that those adverse reactions do not seem to have caused a single death. (jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…)

The Freedom Convoy, @AndrewLawton's new book, is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how to manage an occupation. I had him on Bug-eyed and Shameless to break down the book, talk conspiracy theories, and ask why it's being blackballed. bugeyedandshameless.com/p/the-freedom-…
So, let me add a few more thoughts to this:

I think it's important we don't undergo revisionism about the convoy. It wasn't just a fun family cookout with bouncy castles — it was a disruptive, conspiracy-tinged, anti-vaccine occupation of the capital.
But at the same time, failing to understand the folks who Andrew describes — who had the best time of their lives, who feel like they built a positive movement — is a real mistake.

This is gaslighting. Nobody (serious) is disputing Nikiforuk's assertion that, say, masks are good. But he made a ton of errors in service of that point.

Here, Nikiforuk just repeats all the claims and tweaks his original point to make it seem like he was right all along.
The one thing that really bugs me, and which I'm actually hearing people repeat in the real world, is his continued assertion that people will get reinfected every 2-3 weeks.

He's pointing to a study where 10 unvaccinated people caught Omicron not long after Delta.
Slate does a great job of breaking down the reinfection question.

Nikiforuk just sort of casts that aside and points to a bunch of figures who say reinfections COULD be more common. slate.com/technology/202…

Well, we've managed to settle the question of "was it a good idea for Ben Smith to interview Tucker Carlson?"

It's a resounding "no."
Smith fumbled through some questions on whether Carlson is racist — at one point half-jokingly asking if he was discriminated against at Fox, as a Protestant, because Ailes preferred Irish Catholics.

It gave Carlson a ton of room to dance about and whack Smith over the head.
Smith tried to hold Carlson's feet to the fire on his voicing of the White Replacement theory, but things were already too off the rails. Carlson was gleefully throwing everything back in his face.

Carlson looks a thousand times more prepared for this than Smith.

Just another normal day.
Marjorie Taylor Greene is slated to do a full 45 minutes with Alex Jones. They're kicking off with the July 4 mass shooting, with Greene suggesting that anti-depressant drugs SSRIs are responsible for the shooting and musing about why nobody shot up pride parades in June.
You'll be shocked to learn that Taylor Greene doesn't understand medicine or how mental health gets treated.

(We don't even know that the Highland Park suspect took SSRIs. And while there's certainly study to be done, this is just clear deflection.)

While it looks like a plan to occupy an Ottawa courthouse has not come to fruition for today, there is supposed to be an attempt to arrest Justin Trudeau for treason right about now. Let's see how that goes.
The main organizers are off at a picnic with James Topp and Maxime Bernier. They were pretty clear about avoiding downtown.

The folks in front of Parliament appear to be some much fringe-y.

They're also outnumbered massively by bemused/annoyed folks celebrating Canada Day.
There's already been some tense moments, with locals confronting the protesters.

Some of the protesters, meanwhile, have confronted the media, insisting that we're not permitted to film their faces. (Wrong.) One woman told us "you'll all be tried one day."
