I am very glad our elected representatives made the right and sensible call here.

Such bipartisan support for such a crucial issue in global security!
#Finland #Sweden #NATO
The lone dissenting voice was Missouri Senator Josh Hawley.

I appreciate Senate Majority Leader Chuck Shumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell working together to make sure this was as close to unanimous as possible.

"This is a slam dunk for national security that deserves unanimous bipartisan support." -- Sen. McConnell

Disinformation alert:

The gentleman on the Madrid subway had neurofibromatosis, which is not contagious, according to Spanish news site 20minutos. H/t @SergioEfe, link to English translation here:

A widely shared viral image claimed that he had monkeypox; the poster claimed to have spoken with him, which the man in the photograph denies.
Please let this serve as a reminder not to share and re-tweet "shocking" claims: it's more important to get the truth out correctly than to share immediately.

"Scare" posts rely on short-circuiting our critical thinking by making it "feel" urgent, disastrous, or both.

Headline: "FDA Authorizes Emergency Use of Novavax Vaccine"
This is important, because Novavax appears to perform better against BA.1 and BA.5 (Omicron) than our existing vaccines, according to data they presented at VRBPAC in June:
"The vaccine is authorized for emergency use as a two-dose primary series. The two doses are given three weeks apart."

It is not authorized as a booster for those of us who have had mRNA vaccines.

I'm glad to see so many of you enjoying co-tweeting.

Just a reminder: @ivanastradner, @NovelSci, and I co-tweeted before it was cool. 😉

Here's an example of a thread we'd have loved to have had it for, to inspire what you all might consider doing with it:
We composed our thread in a shared Google doc over about 72 hours before posting it, with a group DM discussion as well as making full use of Google's revision-proposal and commenting features.
We all agreed Ivana had done the lion's share, and would get the honor of being the OP, with Rosalie and I quote-tweeting.

1. BA.5 is now the predominant strain in San Diego.

2. The current trough in wastewater is higher than the Delta peak.

3. Apparent lack of growth is the BA.2.12 wave subsiding as the BA.5 wave begins.
