If you want to work in technology, but don't have a network, read this:

- Thread -
1.) Networking is crucial

It's estimated that 80% of jobs are filled through networking.

Meaning: You're going to lose out on tons of opportunities if you don't have the right network.
2.) You can be more talented and hard-working than someone else.

But if they have a better network, they have more chances to succeed:

- Land jobs
- Know the right people
- Get the help they need

If you are worrying and thinking you don't have the right network, keep reading.
3. But what actually is "Networking?"

It's simply the process of building connections so that when:

1. Someone has a problem you can solve, they reach out to you.

2. When you have a problem, you know someone who can fix it.

It's almost like a pre-sale spot to opportunities.
3. Building your network

Firstly understand what you want to introduce yourself to others for.

Do you want to be the front-end UX designer known to create stunning websites?

Do you want to be a savvy marketer that knows the ins and outs of Facebook ads?
3a.) It's important to determine this so you can be known to solve specific problems.

> Think about what you want to do
> Who you want to connect with
> And how you can help them

So you can ultimately optimize your visibility and connect with the right people.
4. Gain some real-life experience.

One of the most important keys to networking is that you need to build your:

- Skills
- Experience
- Knowledge

You do this by starting and working on something:

- A job
- Your own project
- Freelance projects
4a.)

Just sharing the updates of what you're working on in the places we're going to explain later is a great start.

If you can't get a job/freelance work start by creating your own portfolio which you can use to share online.
4b.) The reason this is so important is that you want to maximize the chances of your network wanting to connect people to you.

This will help you get more opportunities through your network.
5. Now you're great at what you do, but how do you ACTUALLY network?

It comes down to putting yourself out there.

Getting people to see you, and connecting with others.

Here's how you can do that:
5a.)

1. Be active on social media
2. Join Communities specifically related to your career
3. Build personal relationships

Other places you can meet people:

- University
- Education bootcamps
- Through working with them
5b.)

1.) Social Media is a powerful tool when you use it correctly

It comes down to:

- Creating content around what you do

- Getting into discussions around your field

And ultimately building a personal brand where you connect with the people you want to connect to.
5b.)

2.) Join Communities

Communities are the quickest way to meet people, and become known to a wider group of people.

There are communities for almost anything:

- Specific careers
- Specific industries
- Projects that help people in your field.
