The young people I spoke w in the park yesterday noted how little summer programming there is for youth like them. The program that invited me to speak w them is a rarity. It pays young people for their time to listen to a speaker and participate in a meaningful activity.

Yesterday was abolition and sign-making. About 20 young people, including people who came with siblings and cousins. One boy told me he never knew, until he started going to a school in a richer area, that other young people had so many options, resources and activities.

Later, talking with a friend who co-organizes the program, I offered to share some books w the group, which she welcomed, and she also talked about some of the books & kinds of books these young people are passionate about. Y'all there books these young people want & don't have.

Amid my tweets on Roe/trans rights, over the past few days, I’ve had ppl who call themselves radical feminists tell me women did, in fact, lose repro rights bc they were forced to center trans people. Rather than blaming a decades-long campaign that won, they blame other targets.

What I need people to understand is that this 1) feeds into fascism by blaming all problems, even those directly caused by the fascists, on scapegoated communities and 2) this is the level of logic at work in most “gender critical” circles. It’s all paranoia, bitterness, hysteria

Really tho, the fact that we see cis women who are actively losing their rights joining in on attacks on trans people, and scapegoating them, as eliminationist policies are pursued at the state level in red states around the country, should be historically horrifying to people.

This is part of the fascist spiral.

While Republicans target trans children and work to incarcerate their parents, we have celebrities who are mad about Roe attacking trans people. Please look into this kind of scapegoating historically. See where it leads, what it plays into, and notice that it never saved anyone.

Pain stuff is rough lately. Some mornings, I wake up in pain. Other times, it's like my nervous system hasn't fully kicked on, and I don't feel the pain for a few minutes, and I think maybe I feel better today. I prefer the days when I wake up in pain. I hate feeling taunted.

Not back in PT yet, but it should happen soon. For now, I've got cannabis, muscle relaxers, and a dwindling level of patience with myself. Also, I bought a quarter of a strain that does nothing for my pain (bc it was a raved about strain and a good deal) and I am so mad about it.

And is it just me or is IL weed not great right now? I know we have never had it *great* here, compared to some places, but I feel like there's been a recent downturn. Of strains that are around rt now, I like Kosher Dawg, Lavender Gelato and Tropical Runtz. Not much else really.

One thing about that terrible Liz Weil piece (in addition to the creepy descriptions of teens and the total dismissal of sexual harm as the primary problem) is that there were real issues worth exploring in that situation and she just butchered it all to hell.

It is, an issue, for example, that the high school had no functional way of dealing with the situation -- which according to the girls, had been building up for yrs, due to the failure of the school to address abuse and harassment.

The long buildup the girls refer to is depicted, in the article, as the girls reaching into the past, looking for things to be mad about. What a wild thing to assume given that the school admitted it didn't have any real methods of protecting the girls from harassment.

That’s pretty weak.

But also, I just have to name that the idea that the more people tell you shouldn’t say something, the more important it is for you to say it, is some profoundly immature bullshit. Like the moment you hear something like that from someone, unless they’re 12, it’s time to move on.
