.@patagonia CEO dead right that on climate legislation, corporate sector “has historically been full of shit, and the sector is still full of shit.”
They tell public and shareholders one thing; then their trade associations and huge lobbying brutes come in and tell Congress the opposite. And they’re cool with that. fastcompany.com/90776502/patag…
The worst offender is the @USChamber (aka #ChamberofCarbon), a confirmed “worst climate obstructor,” which even created a “climate conversation” to give anxious members cover. How has that worked, you ask?
For three years now, anything good on climate goes to “conversation” to die; everything anti-climate bypasses “conversation” and goes straight to operations. And the “conversation” companies are cool with that — if not in on it.
AND, no member has troubled to ask the Chamber, “In the last decade, how much fossil fuel money have you gotten? How much did it cost them to make you a ‘worst climate obstructer’? Are you still taking fossil fuel money as you obstruct?”
Seems like the kind of thing inquiring minds would want to know, if they took their stewardship and fiduciary responsibilities seriously. The law doesn’t love willful blindness.

The Inflation Reduction Act makes major investments in reducing the carbon emissions that are responsible for climate change. Now, it’s passed the Senate.
From cracking down on methane to making homes and vehicles more energy efficient to greatly expanding carbon capture, I’m proud to have shaped major climate components of this bill.
While there’s still much more to do to get the planet in the safe zone – particularly in the areas of executive action on regulation and eliminating massive subsidies for polluters by finally pricing carbon and instituting a carbon border adjustment…

As we roll into reconciliation, everyone should know what’s up: we get to pass a bill with only fifty votes (yay!!); in return, there are unlimited amendments allowed, to exhaustion.
This one is so delicately balanced that ANY amendment, even a “good” one, risks upsetting the balance — so look forward to a lot of “no” votes on things we would ordinarily want. Don’t be surprised.
And look for Republicans to come up with obscure and unreal amendments designed to cause maximum pain to Democrats, just to score points. None of that mischief is real. The key for us is to ride out the nonsense, hold fast, and pass the bill.

The Trump officials who planned the insurrection are still out there, and they’re working to undermine American democracy, intimidate election workers, and pull off another huge fraud. This time, they hope to succeed.
Mark Meadows, Jeffrey Clark, and Cleta Mitchell were all central to Trump’s coup. Now, they’re all part of the Conservative Partnership Institute – a hub of far-right groups described as a “full-service shop for pro-Trump Republicans.”
CPI houses the so-called Election Integrity Network, led by Cleta Mitchell. Two years ago, she was on the phone with Trump as he pressured the Georgia Secretary of State to “find votes.” She’s continuing to try to meddle in free and fair elections today.

There is a sinister, strategic link between the Big Lie and threats to our election workers. Let’s break it down.
Right-wing organizations are deliberately working to spread election denial; the Conservative Partnership Institute is one such organization.
CPI is a MAGA hub – the center of a network of groups that shelter Trump administration officials linked to Jan. 6th. Take a look at who’s involved…

This is a very hopeful moment, and I will be reviewing the details of the agreement closely over the coming days.

Democrats are about to take the biggest, most serious step in congressional history to lead our only planet to safety in the race against climate change.
In doing so, we will also lower energy costs begin to free ourselves from dependence on foreign despots.
I commend Leader Schumer for his diligence in identifying the common ground shared by every member of the caucus and crafting a plan that will make a real difference in the lives of Americans now and for generations to come.

Dark-money groups funded & organized the rally before the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, and perpetuate the Big Lie today. It’s just one piece of a larger insidious operation.
Behind and beside the violent insurrection attempt, secretive special interests have run a slow-motion campaign to seize government power and remake American law. Right-wing organizations have spent decades undermining our democracy.
Left to fester, dark money will rot the very foundation of our Republic.  Remember, even the Supreme Court justices who signed off on Citizens United conceded dark money was corrupting.  That part was 8-1.
