It was an angry and #sadasa realizing the ableism of the entire conference—long distances to walk, no arrows pointing anywhere, no printed program at all!! The shuttle did not actually take me anywhere I wanted to go. People have had the same complaints for years! @ASAnews

ASA is not for the disabled. With an aging population that is shrinking in size, good luck with that! #sadasa

I’m not paying this ridiculous amount of $ to brave August heat, not getting let into a session despite my vaccination checkmark, taking Uber and having a driver press his penis against me in an effort to “help me into the car” due to crappy shuttle service.#sadasa #ASA2022

And yes, I did complain to Uber about what happened. The point is I should not have needed it and was misled about ASA shuttle access. I don’t have time to get into it—Uber called me in the middle of an editorial board meeting. Screenshots of their response to my complaint.

The best part of #ASA2022 was seeing friends whom I had not seen in a long time, including Onoso Imoagene, who loves telling me she’s seen whatever dress I’m wearing before.

Seeing a sliver of activism as a grad student working with Ruth Milkman come to fruition today was the best part of #sadASA! Hotel workers getting some protection in the workplace brought me joy! #ASA2022

I was invited to 3 receptions and a party and made none of them. The wheelchair entrance for the @UCLA reception was difficult to see from the street and not mentioned on the Japanese American Museum website.

I didn’t go to the others because I’m immunocompromised and need a third booster. Also, I’m in my 40s so bed was calling loud and clear! That book party looked lit as hell and I’m glad you all had fun! #SadASA #ASA2022

Until @ASAnews is for people like me, I’m talking a step back and attending regional and non-Sociology conferences. I’m almost middle-aged. I don’t have time to waste on slow-to-change org conferences.

It’s also weird to be the darkest Black person in the room! ASA loves a brown paper bag test for its ladies. Coming from Chicago and being African, it’s weird as hell. #SadASA

@ASAnews needs institutional changes that go far beyond three-year council terms. Wake me up when it happens. Meanwhile, I hope American Studies’ ASA does a better job in New Orleans! #Americanstudies

I was not allowed to enter the room to preside at a roundtable. @_zulema_valdez saw what was happening and took me into the table session. Then an ASA WW comes in and won’t allow me to attend the business meeting until I take her scooter to the convention center and get a badge.

I couldn’t stay for the @RaceGenderClass business meeting bc I had to scoot in 100° weather to the LA convention center with no shade whatsoever. Of course, by the time I got back, it was 45 minutes later and the business meeting was over. #SadASA

I felt bad for all of those Black and Brown security guards who had to tell me, a Black woman, that a White lady at ASA had said *nobody* was allowed to go into a session without a badge because they had 4 days to do so.

Yet, no shuttle from my hotel to the convention center.
