Since #GuiltyGearStrive and #Bridget is still a hot topic I’m gonna explain WHY Bridget is not trans like some are claiming. We’ll be going over the Japanese and English translation along with the context of it. Ready? Let’s go!

To start at the end of the video #Bridget says says “ushi wa otoko desu”, meaning “actually, I’m a guy”. Special thanks to @Notorious_TET on that translation. This is at the beginning of the arcade story however is still important and worth noting

Now before we go on there is one thing we need to address. The arcade mode. There are two endings in this mode. The first is the bad ending which you obtain by doing a “bad/non flawless run”. The good ending you obtain by doing the opposite. IE get gud or get fucked

In the arcade ending what happens in short is that #Bridget gives up on correcting people and says “missy is fine”.

Bridget got tired of insisting to people that he is a boy when for years of bis life as they keep expressing otherwise and won't take him seriously.

He got broken down and demoralized and finally just give up in hopes of having a rest. Sounds bleak right? Well it is the bad ending of the #Bridget’s arcade route. Makes sense the bad ending would be like that.

However the localization changes this completely. Changing it to him accepting himself as a girl. The localizers tried to make this into a positive message but there are two major problems.

One #Bridget’s story has him being groomed as a girl and him fighting back against this. His entire point and arc has him fighting against people seeing him as a girl despite wearing the girly outfit (which was the joke).

Two it’s still the bad arcade ending. Him giving up and submitting to the grooming enforced onto him is pretty bad. It sends a more negative message then The original ending of the game. Which is ironic as some people are celebrating this.

Then we get to the good ending. Bridget having concerns over confronting his village about how he wants to live his life. Ky gives him some advice from his own dealing with his wife being a gear and how the world perceived gears. No mention of trans anywhere.

Ky also talks about his own body possibly changing into a gear body and how he won't change who is for anyone else. Bridget seems to be comforted by this idea and talks about wanting to be like Ky.

It is left far more ambiguous in both translations in terms of who he wants to be but has a far stronger more positive ending. A YouTube comment sums it up extremely well so I’ll post that here.

In short: Bridget isn’t trans canonically. It’s left ambiguous at best in the good ending and the original Japanese bad ending has him giving up on correcting people. Either way it doesn’t really matter as the arcade endings in these games aren’t really canon unless stated to be

(NOTE: Localizers did modify the bio to add She/Her Pronouns. However the original Japanese translation and the Japanese site has He/Him pronouns. The English website has none for #Bridget)

(NOTE2: Justin makes an excellent point that there is no Japanese discourse over it and Japanese fans are still referring to him as He. Makes you wonder why that is 🧐)

With desperation growing from peeps who are trying to convince people that #Bridget is “trans” they found another “piece of evidence” this little symbol on the hat. They are claiming that it is the trans symbol. However this is not the case. It is the The androgynous symbol.

Now what’s the difference? Let me explain

The androgynous symbol is the combination of Mars (male) and Mercury (female) symbol, overlapped on the same axis.

The trans symbol has the Mars, Mercury AND Androgny symbol combined into a single, Y-shaped, tri-armed sign.

So no. The symbol isn’t proof that #Bridget is trans. As it is both the male and female symbols. I’ll update this thread when it comes to more debunking or adding new info #GuiltyGearStrive
