N, a 24-year-old from #Srinagar, spoke with @MinhajMasoodi & @zakia_qurashi on the toll of rising heroin addiction & relapses on # Kashmir's youth, made worse by easy access to the drug. "It's easier to get heroin than cigarettes here." 1/n article-14.com/post/in-kashmi…
Sharing a story of the devastation wrought by the drug, N recalled how his friend took a shot of heroin and then attended his father's funeral prayers. "A man's father has died, and the first thing he does is to take a dose of heroin." 2/n
"I had a terrible craving. My whole body was in pain...I called my friends & they told me to do it again to relieve myself of withdrawal symptoms." N, who has relapsed 6 times & seen his friends "slowly eaten away by heroin", said "nobody takes action" to limit access. 3/n
“The hard work I had done to keep myself away from drugs was a waste. Relapsing became frequent. This whole exercise became a perpetual cycle,” N says about his struggle with de-addiction. 4/n
Recalling leaving a family wedding & going to find a heroin dealer in Budgam, N said, "I started trembling...I took my car and drove 50 km away to buy just two gm of heroin...These drugs have destroyed an entire generation." 5/n
With tears rolling down his face, N said, “A few years ago, I did something notable, and I was interviewed by one of the newspapers and praised by everyone. Now, I am being interviewed, but as a drug addict. What have I done with my life?” 6/n

"We have to get the woman back in our control. We have to save her & Hindu society."
We travelled across western UP to find VHP & Bajrang Dal leaders deploying saam, daam, dand, bhed (violence & blackmail) to break up interfaith couples. @theintercepttheintercept.com/2021/07/03/lov…
One chilling encounter was with Rajesh Awasthi, a VHP leader in Shahjahanpur, who described this violent “counseling” session with a Hindu woman: “When the girl said, ‘I will go with him,’ I gave her one punch and she started bleeding in the mouth." theintercept.com/2021/07/03/lov…
The VHP leader told the Hindu woman, "'I will throw tezaab on you. I will cut off your nose and I will get the Muslim encountered.'" theintercept.com/2021/07/03/lov…
BREAKING: Jamia Millia Islamia student Safoora Zargar, arrested on 10 April in connection with the Delhi Riots, denied bail by Additional Sessions Court judge Dharmender Rana after four hour long hearing at Patiala Court in Delhi. @HuffPostIndia
Safoora Zargar is 21 weeks pregnant. Her lawyers argued that she has polycystic ovary syndrome increasing her chances of a miscarriage. Judge Rana said, “Considering the material on record, it cannot be said that there is no prima facie case made out against the accused.”
Safoora Zargar’s lawyers argued there is no evidence linking anything that she said or did with the #DelhiRiots in February. Denying the pregnant woman bail, Judge Rana there was prima facie evidence to show there was “a conspiracy to at least blockade the roads (chakka jam)...”
