Since (auto)ethnographic research on sex/uality is heatedly discussed these days, let's seize this moment and focus on the ethically and methodologically sound work that has been done in #QueerAnthro and #SexualityStudies for quite some time
@culanth has collected some of the 🧵. Here are my own (very personal and selective) personal additions:
Early on, Esther Newton's reflections on her erotic involvement with her "best informant" has been a great inspiration for addressing (instead of silencing) the presence of desire, attraction, intimacy in fieldwork encounters:

In the field of HIV research, Ralph Bolton describes how his sexual participation in gay bathrooms during the 90s has contributed to his understanding of risk prevention:

The edited volume "Taboo" was one of the first books to systematically address different aspect of sex/uality in the field - from falling in love to rape

The ed vol "Sex: Ethnographic Encounters" updates these concerns with attraction and desire in the field (as well as the power dynamics they are embedded in) in diverse geographical settings

Paul Boyce, @elengebretsen and @silviaposocco explore "Anthropology's #Queer Sensibilities" in a special issue of Sexualities

For a discussion of method in queer anthropology and their epistemological underpinnings read @MargotDWeiss's piece:

Tony Adams' writing on the queerness of autoethnography has been another inspiration to me:

Also, @linoesilva's "Ethnographic Striptease" is a true gem when it comes to writing about sex/uality in the field and the question of how much to leave (un)covered

Lastly, I had the privilege of contributing to a special issue on SEX @etnofoor (ed @erellagras, @TessaDiphoorn). It brings together ethnographic articles, autoethnographic reflections on sexual silence (@mayconlopes) and my thoughts on writing sex/uality

Feel free to add your personal favorites and contact me if you need access to some of the papers. Over and out 🧚‍♂️
Addition: @kasmani_o auto-theoretically explores "Berlin in scenes of daily loves" and demonstrates how to write the self without falling prey to naval-gazing
