First, a reminder that this webinar is being recorded and the recording will be available on the SAGE Publishing YouTube channel. We'll also share it here and via email.
This webinar is oversubscribed, so not everyone will be able to watch it via Zoom. However, you'll still be able to watch it and ask questions via the YouTube livestream:
.@ginnybraun & @drvicclarke will briefly introduce #ThematicAnalysis, and highlight two of the most common problems they encounter around TA.

After this scene-setting, @drnikkihayfield & @GarethRTerry will ask Ginny and Victoria your questions on challenges around TA research.
A reminder: #ReflexiveThematicAnalysis is part of a broader group of #ThematicAnalysis approaches. Before starting your research, do explore different approaches to find the most suitable.
A tip to help you incorporate reflexivity in #ReflexiveThematicAnalysis:

Try to write in the first person -- put yourself in the research. Embrace the subjectivity of the research process.
Deduction doesn't have to be planned #DeductiveThematicAnalysis

@drvicclarke: "Sometimes your data will tell you how it wants to be analysed."
.@drvicclarke: "Embrace the idea that sometimes your data might want something different from what you planned, in order to get to grips with it and make sense of it in a meaningful and exciting way."
Contradiction in dataset isn't a necessarily a problem, it can capture the richness of the world. A homogenous dataset can present a much harder challenge.

"How are you going to develop and explore themes when it's just a singular kind of experience?" - @ginnybraun
In #ReflexiveThematicAnalysis, you don't show complexity through having many levels of themes and subthemes. Reflexive TA has a flatter structure and you're trying to get to the underlying themes and ideas.
On the challenges of managing and engaging with data, don't be afraid to explore, it's about finding what works best for you. There is no ideal or best way to do it.
Top tip from @ginnybraun: try and start your analysis as soon as you can, so you give yourself plenty of time to work with it.
Top tip from @drvicclarke: don't do something because someone tells you you should. Read, reflect and ask yourself: 'does this concept work for my research?'
Don't be afraid to embrace the messiness of qualitative research and make the mess visible -- mess is an inherent part of doing research.
Thank you again for joining us, @ginnybraun, @drvicclarke, @drnikkihayfield & @GarethRTerry and submitting your questions. #TalkingTA
