why colleen hoover + her writing are problematic: a thread. ୨!୧

her books’ male love interests/leads are toxic, abusive, and controlling. these negative traits are then portrayed as sexy, dominant, or charismatic as an attempt to excuse and romanticize this kind of behavior. her books are centered around men abusing the main character.

the messages that her books send are harmful to everyone, but especially to the majority of her audience - young, impressionable, teenage girls. her books instill the idea that trauma, sexual assault/dubious consent, and controlling + manipulative partners should be normalized.
