I have the privilege of facilitating an amazing group of people working toward housing and racial justice. A few reflections from this week's convening in Denver for @funderstogether's 2nd Foundations for Racial Equity cohort: Image
Our friends @sjdollard1 and @newworldtls are doing incredible work to support housing justice & modeled for us how to create an intentional and inclusive space. They brought in Community Language Cooperative, who offered a language justice statement and provided live translation.
A shoutout to the three groups that came to share their work with us: @GES_Coalition, Native American Housing Circle, and The Reciprocity Collective -- please check out their amazing #HousingJustice work!
FRE reflected on love being central to all the work these organizers are doing. LOVE and DISRUPTION are also central to @funderstogether's work: funderstogether.org/2022_fteh_stra…
I shared this tweet from @BerniceKing with folks, because as she says, love is essential but is not passive. Love puts in work:
On our 2nd day we dug into white dominant culture norms and how to pivot to something different. The amazing and talented @jonathanlykes and @politicsandfshn led us in grounding, chanting, and understanding that change is possible!
Another reflection from this training: it was as much about *being* as it was about *learning.* That's a real testament to the liberatory space @jonathanlykes and @politicsandfshn intentionally work to create.
FRE participants had time to practice using the Emergent Learning framework and to coach each other on how to move work forward. I'm told people have applied it to other areas of their work as soon as they got home! scholarworks.gvsu.edu/cgi/viewconten…
We also talked about collective care for the cohort. Not everyone could attend in person & we spent time intentionally thinking through the question, "What will it take to ensure that FRE remains a cohesive cohort and that those who weren't here in person don't feel left behind?"
Folks stepped up to do 1-1 outreach to the people who couldn't attend in person and to provide peer coaching. As a group we talked about not just the takeaways we wanted to share, but also *how* we wanted to share that knowledge and this experience.
Relationships are also built by sharing meals and getting to know each other on a personal level. We did that and took some epic selfies. (Thanks @patrickmness for capturing this photo!) Image
I need to end this thread (for now) by giving another shoutout to @newworldtls and @sjdollard1 and @COHealthFDN for hosting us, inviting local groups to join us, and for the amazing work they do on the ground. Thank you!!! Image
