[1/5] After the annexation, East Germany’s population rapidly fell from 16 million to around 13 million in the 90’s. The situation was especially dire in rural areas, as now impoverished people fled after socialist farms and enterprises were bought out and destroyed by the West.
[2/5] The West German fascists immediately initiated repressions after the annexation of the GDR. Soldiers and officers of the National People’s Army and People's Police were fired and left without pension, all while Wehrmacht veterans still receive generous allowances!
[3/5] GDR’s government officials and members of the Socialist Unity Party were fired as well. The remaining people were forced to fill out a form where you had to provide your political views. Socialists/communists were barred from state jobs and put on BND's watch list.
[4/5] People’s savings were destroyed too. The West held a scam exchange of 2 DDR Marks for 1 BRD Mark for wages and savings. But debts/liabilities had 1:1 ratio — your savings were halfed, but debts remained the same! In total, $2 trillion of GDR's assets were stolen by the West
[5/5] People of East Germany are treated as second-class citizens in their own home by the "civilized" West. Citizens of the GDR were pushed out of local politics and economy. The "new federal lands" are run by Bonn.
It wasn't "reunification".
It was a brutal annexation. #DDR
[5/4] Even BRD's then Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, remarked that Gorbachev had sold the GDR out to the West for a sandwich (i.e. next to nothing).
Exploitation of the GDR has lead to the rapid rise of fascists (like AfD) who exploit the anger of the people.
[6/4] Bonn government leads a massive propaganda campaign, saying that the GDR "was poor and inefficient" to make the working people ashamed of Socialist Germany, to make the Germans from the West to hate their brothers from the East. It's a sneaky way of fascist rehabilitation.
