The Historic Rocks of Ajjarkadu that witnessed the freedom movement in #Udupi from 1919 to 1947
Expressing their deep anguish and anger against the British rule the people of Udupi mourned the Jallianwalla bhag Massacre of 13th April 1919
They organized themselves on the rocks & bunds of Ajjarkad & successfully carried out a total Haratal against the inhuman British Rule.
People walked from Ajjarkadu to Rathabeedi in protest against the British atrocities & prayed near the temples for the ouster of British
This marked the beginning of the early mass activities of patriotism in Udupi
Later this place witnessed the preparations for the Noncooperation Movement (1920), Salt Satyagraha, Quit India Movement
In 1934 Gandhiji had visited the place & had addressed a mammoth gathering
The radio tower that came up after 1937 did facilitate the broadcast of the news of Independence in 1947
