Join a writers group and share your failures publicly:

“Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a writer. I suffer from an outstretched shadow of depression and an obsession with mildly wonderful fantastical creatures.”

Distraction via Facebook for an undetermined amount of time, sometimes weeks, months, or years.

Edit.

Consume more coffee than you can actually physically handle.

Possible one may eventually sneak a bold manuscript onto some poor unsuspecting editor's desk…then you start collecting pink rejection slips.
