Here at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani, where several groups are set to stage a "history fair" commemorating the life and legacy of former Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr.
Aquino, once foremost critic to the late dictator Marcos Sr., was assassinated this day in 1983.
Several youth, civic and ML survivor groups have set up different exhibits here showcasing timelines, photographs, or documents relating to martial law. Their goal is to correct falsehoods and distortions about the era that saw thousands dead, arrested or disappeared.
Also here is state agency Human Rights Violations' Victims Memorial Commission with a model of the proposed martial law museum, which is set to be built on UP grounds. There is no clear update on its progress under a Marcos admin.
At exactly 1 p.m., Project Gunita played the raw footage from Aquino's last interview in the airplane that brought him home from self-exile in the US. "Assassinations are part of public service...if it's my fate to die by an assassin's bullet, so be it."
As Aquino was escorted by a military team out of his plane, the video recorded the chilling, off-camera instructions of someone repeatedly saying “Pusila! Pusila!,’’ the Visayan word for ‘’kill’’ and the signal for the Aquino murder to proceed.
The August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM), which was formed after Aquino's assassination by his brother Butz, address the crowd: "People ask us: are you still relevant when you're all super-seniors? (I) say yes...and I am thankful that the youth recognize our work's importance."
Former senatorial aspirant and lawyer Luke Espiritu, who touts Aquino as his personal hero, gives a fiery speech: May trapo bang nagbubuwis ng buhay?
We learn that the architect who helped design the Freedom Memorial Museum, Mark Pait, has passed away recently and was buried today, on the 39th anniversary of Ninoy Aquino's death.
Historian Xiao Chua takes the time to remind people of the importance of history and national memory, and reminds people that while Filipinos commemorate Aquino's death today, "PH history must not be reduced to these two families only (Aquino/Marcos)."

JUST IN: As VP Leni Robredo barnstorms across Mindanao, Basilan Rep. and former ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman endorses VP Leni Robredo for the presidency and calls on the whole Bangsamoro to support her bid for Malacañang.
Here at Barasoain Church in Bulacan, where Vice President Leni Robredo and Governor Daniel Fernando will hold a press conference. This will be her first presser since the campaign season started.
Vice President Leni Robredo and Gov. Daniel Fernando now here. Also present is Malolos Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian.
And I believe in destiny as ordained by our God Almighty.
In strongly worded statement, VP Leni Robredo pushes back vs false texts blasts alleging she plans on forming a coalition govt with the CPP: "Para klaro: kasinungalingan ito. Ang mga talagang kilala ako, alam na hindi ako naniniwala sa dahas para solusyonan ang anumang problema."
Robredo: Once and for all: Kaliwa, kanan, taas, baba, lahat handa tayong pakinggan — basta tapat, mapayapa, at handang magtrabaho para iangat ang buhay ng Pilipino.
Despite Vice President Leni Robredo's fears that nobody would show up here, thousands of Kakampinks turned up at her Grand Rally here in Isabela province.
Certainly smaller than her previous ones, but could signal cracks in the Solid North vote.
Megastar Sharon Cuneta now here to introduce her husband, VP candidate Kiko Pangilinan. "Hindi po namin inexpect na ganito ang sasalubong sa amin sa Isabela. Ganito pala magmahal ang mga Ilokano dito."
VP aspirant Kiko Pangilinan now takes the stage after a brief kiss from his wife.
Exhorts them to comb through each street, home, to convince more ppl: Ano ang nakataya ngayong Mayo? Buhay ang nakataya, hanapbuhay, edukasyon. Kaya dapat pipiliin natin ang karapat-dapat
At least 2,298 former and current scholars, alumni and faculty of the Philippine Science High School endorse VP Leni Robredo to be the next president, in yet another display of her unique ability to shore up broad sectoral support.
Jillian, Robredo's youngest, is from Pisay.
List of signatories too long but true to form, the Pisay community also included charts of the signatory breakdown in their statement. Most came from Bicol and Cagayan Valley campuses.
In endorsing Robredo, the community said they hoped to honor the many Pisay martyrs who gave up their lives during martial law, when the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos cracked down on student leaders and activists to quell dissent.
In Marcos’ “Solid North,” pink gushes through the cracks.
Supporters of VP Leni Robredo await her on her hustings across Cagayan and Isabela. They're not here just to woo Marcos voters, but to see the “Kakampinks” who dare wade against the north’s political current.#VotePH
The odds are hugely against her here. Unlike her last stop, Negros Occidental (which she won by a landslide in 2016), she lost massively in Cagayan (53,877 votes to Marcos’ 574,467) and Isabela (86,862 to 504,463). #VotePH
The political families of Cagayan and Isabela have already endorsed Marcos for the 2022 elections. But her supporters here have been moving silently. In fact, it was her Isabela Kakampinks who first opposed the Comelec’s arbitrary removal of Leni-Kiko posters on private property.
