Actors! I’ve been getting asked a lot about how to be considered for more games castings, what is looked for etc. Some brief thoughts and guidance below👇🧵 All personal preference but hope it’s useful 🤞 #Casting#GamesCasting#GamesVO
👾 The MOST important thing is to have solid showreel material available to watch/listen to, either on @SpotlightUK or elsewhere online (eg. agent or personal websites). Could be a professional reel or a collection of material you’ve assembled and recorded yourself.
👾 For voice castings, searches are often accent led, depending on the location of the story. Make sure to have reads available in your natural accent/voice on a reel. After that, showcase your range!
👾 Do keep to accents that are up to native standard & avoid covering too many styles in a reel. Three or four carefully chosen extracts can be enough. A mix of styles is welcome as games range from very natural/cinematic to more heightened stuff.
👾 If you’re skilled at playing across a range of ages, that’s useful to hear.
👾 Don’t feel like you need to include games-focused content on there, if you don’t have it already. It’s a nice-to-have but performance is key, regardless of the format.
👾 A reel doesn’t need to have a huge amount of vocal effects or sound design added, in fact too much of that can often distract from the main event - your voice!
👾 For Per-Cap roles, make sure you have visual material available to watch as your movement and physicality becomes a focus, in addition to your voice for these castings.
👾 Lastly, if you’re with an agent, get them to flag your interest in games! Always good to hear when actors are keen to get involved!
