With one week until the start of classes, I should formally share...
I'm delighted to join @swarthmore college as a Visiting Instructor (soon to be Asst. Prof) of Neurobiology! I'm excited to introduce students to the world of neuroscience and the brain-gut-microbiome axis.🧠🦠
The Meckel Integrative Neurobiology Discovery (MIND) lab will study brain-gut-microbiome signaling in the context of substance use disorder models. Happy to collaborate in other neuropsychiatric disease models!
Making the jump to being faculty straight out grad school (while technically an ABD student myself) is honestly kind of terrifying. This term will be a whirlwind of lecture prep, but I'm looking forward to the ride.
I especially want to thank my dissertation advisor @DrewKiraly and @NINDSDiversity#DSPAN for supporting me in my unusual academic path. Much thanks also to @themazelab, @HofLab, @KraussLab, the twitterless David Hall and Bruce Hetzler for writing recommendation letters!
Huge shout out and a world of thanks to @TheRealDrDukes and @drcryscarr, for inspiring me to apply to faculty positions straight out of grad school! Without their encouragement and guidance, I never would have dared to apply for my dream job.
Finally, I want to thank @ohambiguity, @kss_phd, @LauraBeen1, Ryan Lacey, @MermelsteinPaul, and Bob Meisel for their guidance on SLAC life, undergraduate teaching/research, and deciding between offers.
It was only through a massive community of mentors that I was able to make the leap to my dream job. I hope lift as I climb and serve as a role model to Swarthmore undergraduates, showing them that there is a place for disabled scholars in STEM.
