My small #nichesite's traffic ( pageviews📈/ earnings💸) in the last 4 months (according to Ezoic) and how May 2022's Google Update affected it.
An interesting thread 🧵👇 with an unexpected ending...
Apr 22 - May 21: 15,377 pv ($51.72)
May 22 - Jun 21: 14,192 pv ($40.88)
Jun 22 - Jul 21: 10,666 pv ($26.61)
Jul 22 - Aug 21: 15,163 pv ($53.91)
Notice how the number of pageviews went down from 15,377 (April 22 to May 21) and down to 10,666 (June 22 to Jul 21).
At one point during this crash, it showed around 7,000 visits (not pageviews) in Ezoic's dashboard for the previous 30 days.
But then... when the update finally "figured" things out...
My site's traffic slowly, but surely started to go back up.
From 10,666 pv (June 22 to July 21) to 15,163 pv (July 22 to August 21).
In the last few days, it is showing to be higher than ever.
Regarding revenue, lower traffic (among other factors, naturally) also meant lower income.
It went down (from $51.72) to almost half ($26.61) at one point.
But then higher than its previous best ($53.91).
What do I mean by "when the update finally figured things out"?
Because whenever Google launches an update (obvious, I know) it's meant to improve its search engine by removing bad sites and showing better, more relevant ones.
But it takes a while (and some tweaks and fine tuning by Google) to get things right.
If your content is helpful, answers people's questions and addresses their searcher intent... you will be rewarded in the end.
Sure, your traffic may go down for a few weeks (as did mine) but then it will go back up and, probably, higher than before.
Bottom Line regarding Google Updates:
As long as you do things right, you have less to worry and plenty to be happy about.
Because Google Updates are designed to reward good sites and remove bad ones.
P.S.: I'm monetizing my small niche site with Ezoic (only on info posts).
Even with so little traffic I was able to get the ball rolling and earn some income to pay for hosting and such.
