Today, I'm excited to announce "Bringing Norfolk Together," a three-part series aimed at lifting up local families, fostering community, & promoting learning.
This has been months in the making & possible only because of several local partnerships...a 🧵
RT & spread the word!
First, we're hosting a FREE American Sign Language class on Tuesday, Sept 20 at Mudita Cafe. We'll have an instructor from @ODU!
ASL is a beautiful language, it's a powerful tool for young kids, and it builds a more inclusive community.
Second, 757 Community Closet, a local nonprofit, and its amazing founder @findingsolaceVA will be in Ocean View on Saturday, October 29 to provide FREE clothing for those who need it.

Finally, Hanover Grain, a local business that does some incredibly beautiful woodworking, is building TWO custom little free libraries, which will be placed in the 94th District. Excited to unveil them later this Fall!
With Labor Day approaching, let's celebrate the contributions of working people in VA and ask a basic question: do our laws & policies value those contributions?
1. We need to build an economy that works for all & we're falling short. A clear example?
"The wage gap between Hispanic & non-Hispanic white workers has actually widened from 72 cents for every dollar in 2001 (the earliest data available) to 68 cents for every dollar in 2021."
2. The shortage of affordable child care is a major, structural problem. Fixing this ONE thing would go a long way toward a more equitable economy:
"A minimum-wage worker with an infant in VA would need to work full time for 32 weeks just to pay for one infant’s child care."
