🧵THREAD with my position-by-position thoughts on the #Titans 53-man roster heading into the final preseason game tomorrow night:
QB - The question is clearly whether or not Woodside makes the 53. I've gone back and forth on this all summer, but ultimately I think it comes down to this... the Titans will want Woodside in the building (either on 53 or PS), do they think they can get him through waivers?
RB - Pretty clear cut with Henry, Hilliard, Haskins, and Carter. Think they'll try to get Chestnut back on the PS. They clearly like him, but his skill set is too similar to Haskins' to justify a spot on the 53 most likely.
WR - Think five spots are spoken for with Woods, NWI, Burks, Philips, and McMath. Do they keep a 6th? I still think Dez is the clear favorite if they do. Kinsey and Roberson feel ticketed for the PS to me.
TE - Can Tommy Hudson convince them to keep a 4th TE? Would anyone claim him if you tried to get him down to the PS? I wouldn't think so, which makes me think they probably just keep 3 unless they actually want to have 4 active on gameday for some reason.
OL - I feel like Levin has done enough to largely lock up the 8th OL spot (with Radunz and Jamarco being 6 and 7). Do the Titans keep a 9th? If so, do you go Jordan Roos (older, more experienced) or Xavier Newman-Johnson (UDFA rookie who has been good in preseason).
DL - Clear top 5 is Simmons, Autry, Tart, Naquon, and Walker. Can Hand or Murch convince them to keep a 6th? My guess is no.
OLB - Has Anenih done enough to make the 53? I'd lean towards yes, especially since we know that he was the UDFA who got the most guaranteed money from the team this year. They like him, he's flashed, he can play special teams. He should be on the roster.
ILB - With Rice on PUP, Titans have some extra spots available here. Dylan Cole probably gets one to have a veteran in the mix, but do they keep both rookies Campbell and Gibbens or opt for Joe Jones in the 4th and 5th spots?
CB - Who are CB5 and CB6? I don't think Chris Jackson's roster spot is safe. Titans added Ugo Amadi to the competition for backup nickel (essentially taking the injured Shakur Brown's spot). I think Amadi likely grabs CB5 and we'll see if they keep a 6th. If so, Jackson or Mabin?
S - J-Rob shook the snow globe on this group in the last week. A.J. Moore, Theo Jackson, Lonnie Johnson, Adrian Colbert, Josh Kalu, and Tyree Gillespie are all competing for what is probably 3 spots. I like Johnson and Jackson the most, but I don't think anyone is "safe" here.
P - Stonehouse or Kern? Kern is punting better this preseason and could have another good year in him at 36. However, the Titans could save $2M and lock in a young, talented punter if they go Stonehouse. I don't think Stonehouse will make it through waivers if they let him go.
So from a numbers standpoint, I think this is the baseline for each position:
QB - 2
RB - 4
WR - 5
TE - 3
OL - 8
DL - 5
OLB - 4
ILB - 4
CB - 5
S - 4
ST - 3
TOTAL - 47
So the last 6 spots come down to where you want "extras". My guess is 4 extra spots go on D, with 2 on O.

Here is the sequence. It’s 2nd and 1. Odds of Houston converting either on this down or the next is astronomical. Joseph is confused looking to the sideline and Vrabel is telling him “it’s ok” and then does a sales job to make sure the ref sees it.
Why it’s genius: the 5-yard penalty gives them a new set of downs inside the 20 which means a maximum of one more possible 1st down before the end zone barring penalties. That’s a huge moment and incredibly smart in-game coaching from Vrabel.
The Texans were likely going to convert anyways so them running one or two more plays before they do only milks more clock off. Considering the Titans scored with 4 seconds left, it’s safe to say this move saved the game.
