A long thread a must for all #PetParents
I always wanted to raise a Golden Retriever. After much research was told a particular breeder in blore has the best breed. My girl Coco came to me when she was 2 months old. Her wobbly walk I thought was puppy gait 1/10 #BoycottBreeders
At 4 month old at a routine vaccination, her gait had gotten more exaggerated & I had flagged it to the breeder. They said I was putting her on slippery floor. The vet did X-rays & she was diagnosed with a congenital joint disease called #HipDysplasia & it was severe 2/10
Only a salvage procedure called FHO was recommend where both femoral heads would be removed. She was too young for it & the surgery can be done only post 9 months. I was devastated. Called the breeder who promptly said bring her back we will replace. 3/10
Thoroughly angry I refused. She is not a faulty piece of furniture. She is a life. After consulting series of vets all of who said surgery was the only option. My family & I decided to try conservative management for as long as she was not in pain. 4/10
Regular swimming, high protein diet, bone broth, turmeric, glucosamine & chondroitine supplements, you name it and we did it. We placed mats across the house, carpeted our rooms. Making it safe for her to walk. She exercised only in a lawn. 5/10
It went on till recently. No signs of pain. Perfectly happy doggo. Life was looking good for all of us. Two weeks ago I came home to find her limping. Again ran to the vet for an X-ray. The dysplasia had progressed & bone was showing arthritic changes. She is 18 months. 6/10
Again a full round with all vets. Each vet a different take. Finally decided to opt for surgery with Dr. Ramesh, @cessnalifeline 22nd aug I dropped her off for surgery & sat outside crying with anger & pain. Angry at human greed that inbreeds canines for money. 7/10
Dr. Ramesh says every lab/golden espl in the last 2 years are presenting with the same issues with different levels of severity. This means it’s an epidemic of sorts among the above breeds. Indiscriminate breeding is giving rise to puppies that are in pain when born 8/10
There is no control on these greedy breeders. The families are scared to undertake surgery. It’s a huge decision for them. Not to mention the emotional & financial strain. There are no laws to monitor breeding of dogs in India. The animals are in severe pain. 9/10
They don’t show it bcoz they love you & u love them. Every step they take with this condition leads to grating bones & pain. Breeders know this and still breed because it’s money. Pls pls don’t bring home these breeds from a breeder. #BoycottBreeders. 10/10
And finally I will post more on her recovery as & when it happens. The prognosis is good. She will lead a pain free life. My goal with this thread is to caution families to think carefully before bringing a pet home. And also pls #AdoptDontShop
There is no authority that is overseeing all this @girirajsinghbjp pls look into this huge travesty that’s happening in the name of dog breeding. @ShefVaidya@amitsurg pls amplify and let it reach as many as possible. #BoycottBreeders
I thought @girirajsinghbjp was the Minister of Animal Husbandry. But he is not… so tagging @Min_FAHD

This whole thing about #dogs and crackers are getting on to my nerves. I have raised 3 puppies and each one has a different personality. My pug who lived till 14 years didn’t give a damn about crackers, neither does my retriever. But my shihtzu gets very anxious. 1/3
My shihtzu is super anxious when it rains as well so should I ask for rains and thunderstorms to be stopped? There are a million things u can do to ease their anxiety. Ear muffs, lavender oil, snuffle mats, lick mats, play calming music etc. 2/3
Instead of looking at options to help ease his anxiety, should you ask for a whole country to stop celebrating deepavali? I won’t because I don’t have an agenda. It’s 3 days at best, and we will manage our pet. I suggest u do the same and stop cribbing 3/3
