Actor Johnny Depp made his first on-camera appearance in months at the MTV #VMAs on Sunday. huffpost.com/entry/johnny-d…
The actor, who was awarded more $10 million in damages in a defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard in June, made a cameo as the ceremony’s signature Moonperson award (formerly known as a Moonman). huffpost.com/entry/johnny-d…
Depp’s face appeared virtually inside of an astronaut that floated down from the Prudential Center’s ceiling.

“I needed the work,” Depp said. 📷 Getty
Depp later shared a video on Instagram showing his head virtually imposed into the astronaut suit.

Depp joked with viewers that he’s “available” to be booked at events including birthday parties and wakes.
Depp’s appearance occurred after a multimillion-dollar case against Heard centered on a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she described herself as a survivor of domestic violence, a statement that Depp argued was defamatory to him. huffpost.com/entry/amber-he…
Last month, a judge denied Heard’s request for a mistrial, but her legal team is still appealing the verdict. Depp’s attorneys have meanwhile filed a notice to appeal a separate verdict that awarded Heard $2 million, also for defamation. huffpost.com/entry/johnny-d…
TMZ and The New York Post first reported Depp’s possible appearance at the #VMAs.

Early in the pandemic, an exposure to COVID meant waiting anxiously for many days to see if you were infected. Now, the window is getting smaller and smaller, according to a new review published in the journal JAMA Network Open.
huffpost.com/entry/incubati…
The study, conducted by scientists in Beijing, found that COVID’s incubation time has decreased significantly with every new variant. Omicron, which is the current dominant variant in the United States, has the shortest time between infection and symptoms. huffpost.com/entry/incubati… Image
A shorter incubation period means COVID can spread more easily. Since there is no longer a 7-to-10-day window between infection and symptoms, the virus is building up faster and doesn’t have to hang out in a person for a period of days before infecting someone else. Image

“Despite the recently passed HB 7 Amendment (Stop WOKE Act), I won’t be adjusting my syllabi to remove readings or discussions that make students ‘uncomfortable,’” says Florida instructor Beth L. Matterson (a pseudonym) in an essay for HuffPost. huffpost.com/entry/florida-…
“HB 7 is obviously created to protect the white, straight student who is theoretically being made to feel ‘guilt, anguish, or other forms of psychological distress,’ as the bill lists in one of its ‘specified concepts’ that seeks to refute that anyone is privileged or oppressed.” Image
“I won’t pretend that systemic racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia and other forms of oppression do not exist. I will not ‘whitewash’ our country’s history or minimize the challenges and oppression that so many still experience.”

“Stranger Things” fans hoping to see more of Eddie Munson and Chrissy Cunningham got what they wished for ... sort of.

(Caution: Spoilers ahead.) huffpost.com/entry/eddie-ch…
Grace Van Dien, who plays Chrissy, shared a photo of herself with Joseph Quinn, who plays Eddie.

It seems likely the image is from the Aug. 25-28 Fan Expo Canada, where they were both on the bill, along with several other “Stranger Things” stars. huffpost.com/entry/eddie-ch…
Fans of the show celebrated the reunion of the duo from Season 4′s opening episode, where Chrissy, “queen of Hawkins High,” turns to Eddie, “the freak,” for drugs to help overcome nightmares via Vecna. The two characters formed an unlikely bond during their time on screen. Image

Humans have honored their dead for centuries with burials at sea, but Nichelle Nichols belongs to the stars. Celestis Inc. announced that part of the "Star Trek" actor's ashes and a DNA sample will travel up to 186 million miles aboard its Vulcan rocket. huffpost.com/entry/nichelle…
"Her role on Star Trek was as significant as it was legendary," the private spaceflight company wrote in a statement. "Now our Enterprise Flight will have on board the person who most completely embodied the vision of Star Trek as…diverse, inclusive and exploring the universe."
Nichols, who died last month in Silver City, New Mexico, at age 89, broke racial barriers with her role as Nyota Uhura in the original "Star Trek" and encouraged women to join NASA. huffpost.com/entry/nichelle…
