Joe Brumm: The idea of Bluey is “talking dogs”. It only took afternoon to come up with that idea.

But there’s more to it than that. If episodes aren’t beautifully written, a cynicism permeates the animation studio.

Shout out to the director and crew from Charlie and Lola, for fostering the supportive creative environment.

Making a pilot in his spare time. Pitched it and got funded. $6m for 52 episodes. “A very focussing moment.”

Called a few friends for help. And they came and helped.

Modelled on Charlie and Lola to all be done under one roof. Writing, storyboards, animation, acting - all in the same place.

Hired a lot of novices locally, four weeks of software training required for each one.

15 seconds of animation produced per week!

Watched the studio crew: no cynicism, everyone proud, fantastic team.

Won a few awards. Number one show on Disney+. Not kids shows, all shows on Disney+.

Responsibility as the bosses. Difference between going to Christmas and hosting it for the first time!

Stories: you’re watching a character moving from point A to point B.

Ultimately you have to pull back on the quality to protect the people.

Looking after your people is the key.

Life’s difficult. When you have kids, you lose all control over circumstances. You get humble.

Life gives you enough sad endings. Art can be relief for 7 minutes.

Kids are kids. Sometimes it’d be nice to be a kid again, and not understand time pressures #stickygecko
