@mardi_steere takes the stage to discus systems, siloes, and kids. #DFTB22
Found her #tribe in paediatric emergency medicine.

Married an American. Moved to USA. Worked 80-100 hour weeks, while he was very supportive from a Navy submarine deployed for 6 months at a time.
Moved to Kenya for 8 years with 2 young kids.
Moved to Australia, RFDS, working with rural and remote people.
1. Dream A Dream
Consider your paediatric dream. Have you achieved it? Have you put it to one side? Have you suffered moral injury? (Not your fault.) Take the time to consider your dream again.

Now turn your dream into a Big Hairy Audacious Goal. #BHAG
@mardi_steere tells us her #BHAG. Don’t tell her boss, they don’t know. HINT: It’s about access to care for all Australians.
2. Stretch your bubble
Some of us are in comfortable bubbles, some are shrinking and compressing us, some can’t see outside our bubbles. @mardi_steere asks us to stretch our bubbles.

Cold-called @DFTBubbles for help. #DFTB22
Who is someone you know with the same dream?

Same location, different role?
Different location, same role?

Can we stretch our bubbles to achieve our dreams?

3. Let go of the Lolly 🍭
We won’t let go of our dream. We take our dream and try to use it. We must look at the need and adapt. There is probably something already there. Someone else’s dream.

@PaedSurg speaking about who is research for? #DFTB22 Image
It starts with one. Like tattoos. Many people have one or two published papers. Few stop at three…

Often start with a case study n=1.
Patient-centred approach to a power analysis.

“How few people can I enrol in this trial so the smallest number of people as possible are exposed to a less efficacious treatment?” #DFTB22

Bronwyn Griffin @brongriffin presenting on improving burn care #DFTB22 Image
Most burns happen in the home. Most homes also have a tap. Less access in rural and remote locations.

🔑 20 min cool water (within 3 hours)
70% get first aid. Is that enough? What’s an acceptable number? Image
