📣 HUGE news from @nytimes: Our coworker and #NoTechForApartheid activist Ariel Koren resigned from @google, calling out Google’s retaliation against Palestinian, Muslim, and anti-Zionist Jewish Googlers who speak out for Palestinian human rights. 🧵
Fifteen Googlers are speaking out about this contract today for the first time in audio testimonies. Many are from Palestinian workers, speaking anonymously due to @Google’s culture of fear and track record of retaliation. Listen here:
@nytimes highlights our coworkers’ stories of how @google creates an environment of fear that shields it from accountability for its $1 billion contract with the Israeli government and military.
While @google claims to value diversity, the @nytimes clearly concludes that, based on our coworkers’ stories, at Google "[s]peech supporting the Israeli government is permitted, while speech supporting Palestinians is flagged and sometimes a punishable offense."
@google’s attempts to silence us only make us more resolved to stop our labor from harming Palestinians. As Ariel says, “When Google retaliates against workers, it’s about creating a culture of fear. I think the opposite is true in this case — more workers took a stand.”
We won’t stop until @google and @amazon stop providing tech for Israeli apartheid!
Join us next Thurs, September 8 in Seattle, SF, and NYC as we take action at our workplaces with community orgs: notechforapartheid.com/#dayofaction
Sign up here for our first ever community briefing on the #NoTechForApartheid campaign this week– Thursday, July 28 5:30pm Pacific/8:30pm East to learn about how you can get involved and take action with us!
Hosted by Jewish Diaspora in Tech, this community discussion is open to tech workers across the industry interested in hearing from Google and Amazon workers organizing to end Google/Amazon’s $1.2B contract with the Israeli government and military…
And we’ll be sharing some important news about how we can take action together as tech workers! Since our companies signed the “Project Nimbus” contract last year, over 1,100 workers across Google and Amazon have signed petitions calling on our companies to rescind the contract.
BREAKING—Today, Alphabet investors voted on one of the first shareholder resolutions in history that name Israeli apartheid & raise investor concerns w/ Project Nimbus, @google & @amazon’s $1.2 billion cloud contract w/ the Israeli military & gov #NoTechforApartheid 🧵
We’re proud that a fellow @google worker & @AlphabetWorkers leader will present this proposal. As tech workers, we do not want our labor to be used to enable violence against Palestinians or any other communities
That’s why Proposal #21 at today’s Alphabet annual investor mtg calls for a risk assessment of @Google contracts with militaries & militarized policing agencies, including Project Nimbus, policing agencies like CBP, and more.
@Google Leadership is unjustly retaliating against our coworker and @DropNimbus member, Ariel Koren, for speaking up about how Google's Project Nimbus contract with the Israeli military will enable violations of Palestinians' human rights.
@Google@Google is forcing Ariel out of her position on the @GoogleForEdu team after 6 years of impeccable performance reviews. The retaliation began after Ariel voiced concerns about Project Nimbus on @AymanM's MSNBC show and called on @Google and @Amazon to cut the contract w/ Israel.
@Google's mistreatment of Ariel for standing up for Palestinians is consistent with their track record.
They have previously retaliated against workers who protested contracts that enabled state violence against oppressed people.
We are @Amazon and @Google workers demanding our bosses end Project Nimbus, a $1 billion contract with the Israeli military and government.
We want our labor to help people — not power human rights violations against Palestinians.
Why our campaign matters, and how you can help:
Project Nimbus provides @Google and @Amazon's cloud services to the Israeli military and government, making their oppression of Palestinians even crueler and deadlier.
Our bosses signed the Nimbus contract last May while Israel bombed Gaza for 11 days, killing 250 Palestinians.
Through Project Nimbus, the Israeli military and government can use @Amazon and @Google's cloud services to:
