It’s symbolic that Gorbachev who contributed to the dissolution of the USSR—for which he’s been widely hated by Russians—passed away at a time when Russia is resurgent.
In a 1991 referendum, the majority voted to keep the USSR. But the Gorbachev government ignored the will of the people. This is one of the reasons why many felt betrayed.
People don't know / remember / ignore the 1991 USSR referendum the same way they don't know / remember / ignore the multiple Crimea referenda, e.g. the 1994 referendum for greater autonomy and dual citizenship with Russia.
Accidentally found a photo of my great-great-grandfather whom I've never seen before. He is on the left and looks like he belongs in a painting. My great grandfather is in the middle.
This is blowing my mind.
Also found a photo of my great grandfather (right) w/ the future Metropolitan Sergius (Tikhomirov) of Tokyo and All Japan (standing center). Wish it were higher res. Tikhomirov was tortured at age 74 on suspicion of links to the USSR and died weeks before Japan's WWII surrender.
Holy moly, it's about time I found some previously unseen photos of an ancestor wearing a chokha. On flipping Wikipedia of all places! All family photos I had of him were in suits (e.g. the last one).
Todays’s France has very few public intellectuals at the philosophical level of Dugin (the UK and US—even fewer, if any), so this demonization in the context of his daughter’s assassination is unsurprising.
Something tells me that your average talking head in the western media hasn’t read Dugin’s multi-volume works on Plato or, perhaps, on sociologie de l’imaginaire.
I have translated ONE philosophy book by Dugin. Out of DOZENS. In the past, western media routinely LIED calling me his main translator. While having the worst people in the world (in my opinion) exaggerate your accomplishments is a compliment, it’s simply not true.
Vladimir Frolov (1874-1942) was an artist in St. Petersburg who created many mosaics incl. those for the Savior on the Spilled Blood Church in that city, Theodore Cathedral (Pushkin), + Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God (Kiev region).🧵
Here are Frolov’s mosaics for the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Nice (one of the biggest Orthodox churches in western Europe) and Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Smolensk region.
In the 1930s, Frolov created several mosaics for the Moscow metro (e.g. Mayakovskaya, Avtozavodskaya stations).
The EU and NATO were helping Ukraine destroy its petal-mine stockpiles as part of the EU-Ukraine agreements back in 2013 per Ottawa Convention. Look how well that went with Donbass suffering from these for 8 years.
As of July 16, Ukraine is to start fining those not using Ukrainian language with fines up to $300-400. This law targets officials, managers, + employees of institutions + businesses. The extreme measure is meant to eradicate the Russian language. European values, right, Ursula?
Ukrainian media provided some of the details of the language law and fines for not using Ukrainian. And yes, this affects Russian and other minority languages.
A couple of years ago, some western media even sounded the alarms over Ukraine’s newer language laws, which, at that time, singled out Russian. Pointing out the long-term negative consequences, the laws were called divisive.
