✨ It's the feeling that you are an important part of the systems you live in.

🧠 Belonging is a fundamental psychological need that is baked into our biology as human beings. When that need is fulfilled, we experience a whole range of benefits. Image

4️⃣ According to @drkellyallen and colleagues, belonging is influenced by four interrelated components:

βœ… Competencies for belonging.
🎟 Opportunities for belonging.
⚑️ Motivations for belonging.

πŸ‘‰ School belonging is "the extent to which students feel personally accepted, respected, included, & supported by others in the school social environment" (Goodenow & Grady).

🧲 Several factors, at various levels, influence school belonging. Image
πŸ“ˆ Looking to increase your students' sense of school belonging? Here's where you'll get the most bang for your buck!

πŸ” A 2018 meta-analysis study examined the effect of 10 themes relevant to school belonging. The effect size measured helps us know where to focus as teachers. Image
πŸ§‘β€πŸ« Teacher support (students feel connected to their teacher) has the strongest effect on school belonging.

βœ… Support student autonomy
βœ… Hold high expectations for all
βœ… Be attentive
βœ… Be available (personal+academic support)

πŸ‘€ First off, an overview of TPSR.

🎯 The purpose of TPSR is to help young people learn to take control of their own well-being and development, to be efficient in their social environment and to learn how to be sensitive and responsive to the wellbeing of others.
πŸ“ˆ The model is based on five levels of responsibility:

πŸ‘ Respect for others.
πŸ’ͺ Effort
🧭 Self-direction
🀝 Caring for others.
πŸš€ Transfer

🎯 The goal is to help students develop competence in levels 1-4 and then apply what they've learned outside of #physed.
