Let's go through the #BirdCityFootball initial 53-man roster with some thoughts and the like. Thread time with Britishbirdgang...
Quarterback - I can understand the idea of keeping just 2 guys and parking Trace on the PS (if not claimed elsewhere)...
Because they will have the option to move him up to the active roster if someone else tries to poach him.
Kyler and Colt. The dynamic duo. No surprises keeping either of these guys - I'm just tweeting words to make it look like I'm saying a lot but saying nothing at all.
RB - 5 of them? I guess they like what they see from Ingram in preseason to keep him as the fifth dude. Conner the obvious starter, Eno will get his and Ward does great ST work. Where Darrell Williams fits in, idk, but he is there and will no doubt contribute something.
WR - like we surmised the other day, Nuk's suspension opened the door to keep both Andy Isabella and Greg Dortch on the 53. Whether they remain after he returns is anyone's guess. AJ, Hollywood, Rondale and Tweezy...they're all self-explanatory, no need for an essay on them.
TE - first things first, I enjoy that they are all numbered consecutively, 85 + 86 + 87. Ertz, McBride, Williams - on paper it looks like a really solid trio. Ertz could break all kinds of AZ TE season records. Not seen much of the rookie, but don't be one who #ForgotAboutTrey.
OL - 9 kept. Couple different to my 53 but I'm not Steve Keim so never had any influence in the decision. It's a good group with a solid looking starting 5, good calibre back-ups in Jones and Ford and versatile guys as well who can play multiple positions. Health is key.
DL - 6. No room for the impressive Manny Jones but enough for Jonathan Ledbetter? Fingers crossed Watt stays on the field. Allen hopefully improves further in his contract year and need something more from Fotu and Lawrence in the middle of that line. 🐕 🐝 lives on.
OLB - In a very young group, you can't spell Golden without "old" and he's the veteran here. Gardeck, Dimukeje, Thomas and Sanders...so little experience but the latter trio have clearly shown something in preseason and training to say they are the best for the job. Hope they are
ILB - no, I don't know who Ben Niemann is either. I do know who the other guys are though. Expecting big things from Collins, expecting even bigger things from Isaiah Simmons. No pressure, lads. Vigil, Vallejo - experience. But both can still play. Lots? Who knows.
CB - Murphy and Wilson the guys here. Antonio Hamilton (even with his unknown status) and Christian Matthew make it to bolster the numbers. Newly-acquired Trayvon Mullen also in, because trading for him then cutting him would have been a foolish move. Even for Steve Keim...
S - Just the four. One more than I predicted. Budda is there, no surprise. The Thompson brothers also make it on the 53. And Charles Washington as well, but he might be moved to IR due to lingering issues?
Special Teams - Matt Prater is in. Andy Lee is in. But there is no long snapper? Guess they're just going to snap to each other. Or it's purely a procedural move and Aaron Brewer will be back when cuts and other transactions are made. Unless someone claims him... Welp.
No doubt we'll see the old "roster churn" that Keim is so fond of. Some of this 53 won't make it to KC, we may even have new faces before then.
Not to mention we have a Practice Squad to construct as well...
The cutdown to 53-man rosters must be done by Tuesday at some point.
Here's a thread of my 53-man roster 'prediction' or whatever you want to call it for #BirdCityFootball.
Special Teams; (3) - Matt Prater, Andy Lee, Aaron Brewer.
Kicking it off with a trio that are set in stone. No changes coming here between now and the deadline as there has been zero competition in the off-season. The veteran old men live to fight another day.
Another slam-dunk, almost guaranteed trio that will make the final 53-man roster. Questions of whether or not they carry 2/3 but numbers allow it and protect Trace from being nabbed off the PS like we nabbed him...
