Some @ontarionurses nurses &allied health workers maintain the right to strike due to not being classified as “essential” like their hospital counterparts. To end hallway medicine, to end the ALC crisis, to decrease ED visits & to increase patient experience and best practice 1/6
then these same nurses and allied health could be considered “essential” in the eyes of some. In 2015, CCAC’s care coordinators ( RNs and allied health) were on strike for ten days. kitchener.ctvnews.ca/ccac-others-in… 2/6
Public Health nurses also maintain the right to strike. They are also not considered “essential” yet during a global pandemic they are highly skilled and necessary. 4/6
Why can some @ontarionurses strike and others not? I don’t profess to be an expert in having this answer but given what we have seen regarding nurses in the past few years, to say one type is essential and another is not, could be viewed as insulting and demeaning to another. 5/6
As a nurse, best patient care is my ultimate goal. But with unsafe working conditions, workload and unfair salary capping and sexism Ontario won’t see best patient care as nurses continue to leave the profession or get burnt out on LTD. #NurseTwitter#SaturdayMorningThoughts 6/6

We left the hospital late last night after no acute cardiac findings. There was no interest from the medical team in getting answers for her increasing episodes of light flashes/headache/dizzy. She has so many yesterday & is suffering intensely with them. 💔My heart breaks. 1/9
As her essential caregiver and as her sister who happens to be a RN, I was honoured to care for her yesterday. Despite the fatigue I face, she is worth it. And she is graceful even in her pain. Our Mom and I will continue to be her best advocates. 2/9
Thank you to all those of you who were thinking of us yesterday and sent love, prayers and kindness. It is my hope that my advocacy and sharing in this space brings light to the realities of many in group home settings in Ontario. 3/9
