Friend of a friend was careful, boosted and unlucky. He died today after Omicron destroyed his lungs and put him on a ventilator. Please do not think that just because it will be mild for most of the vaxed, it must be for you as well.

I sometimes get calls from friends who have loved ones on ventilators, because I went through that years ago and survived. Most do not. One thing I can share is that even vented patients can be transferred to hospitals with more expertise. I would not be here otherwise.

Everybody: I am leaving Reuters after the most productive and satisfying decade of my career. I have been very lucky to work at such a decent, collegial and industrious place with wide reach and no bias. If you have appreciated my work, please read and/or RT this THREAD.

I am proudest of building up the Reuterw cybersecurity team into the best anywhere, something that will still be true with me gone. This piece on Chinese CloudHopper hacks reuters.com/article/us-chi… is a good example of our joint work.

I also enjoyed working with the talents on our broader tech team to produce exclusives on Apple, Facebook, Uber, Twitter, and others in Silicon Valley. The San Francisco bureau has had a special camaraderie that meant a lot to me.

O’Rourke wasn't just a random hacker who stole long-distance service to reach bulletin boards, where tech-savvy people hung out online before the Web. As a teen, he also belonged to the notorious and wildly influential Cult of the Dead Cow reut.rs/2DvWzuT (2/10)

The revelation makes O’Rourke the most prominent ex-hacker in American political history. It also fits: he was already known for being rebel enough to tour in a punk band, to unseat a Congressman from his own Democratic party, and to support gun control in Texas. (3/10)

Krebs priories: 5G/China; federal networks; critical infrastructure cyber attacks; election protection.
