🧵We've been noticing an increase in accounts that get our "amber flag" waving - accounts claiming to be lesbian and/or radfems that may not be what they claim & we're a bit concerned, especially as #YoungGCWomenUnite is trending.
So here's a few things to look out for...
🧵2...things to look out for...
- THE GENERAL TONE. Women know what a woman's "voice" sounds like. These men *think* we speak like a gushing bad US romcom teenager - "I really long for a rad lesbian friend to chat with!" No mate, women don't talk like that! 🍆
3 - ANIMÉ PROFILE PIC - Boy, do these boys love their cartoon girly images! Not a 100% dead cert but enough of an amber flag to take a closer look at the account & look for other things that might be a bit "off".
🧵4 - THE BIO - We *are* women, we don't feel the need to "prove it" when we write our bios & they ring true bc they are! If a bio sounds a bit "off", take a closer look & just be aware that the person may not be what they seem.
🧵5 - FOLLOWERS/FOLLOWING - Use with caution (they will follow key people) but you can get a general "feel" from the lists - especially who follows *them*. There's no hard & fast red flag but trust your gut that things don't seem genuine, that you're looking at an imposter.
🧵6 - LOOK AT TWEETS/REPLIES & RTs - it's hard to keep up a falsehood, there will be little slips, giveaways. If your instinct says "I'm not sure about this one", trust yourself & give them a wide berth.
🧵7 - DMs - be very wary about DMs if you don't have a reasonable assurance that the person is who they say (other people vouch for them, you've encountered them irl etc)
If someone DMs out of the blue, be very wary & don't be worried about seeming rude - a woman will understand
