So I’m going to address the minority of people who (in good faith) think this makes financial sense.
1) “Existing NYPD cars cost more”
Untrue, the base price of those are lower. Adding things like bullet proof raises the cost. They will want to do this here too.

True, but true with non luxury electric cars even more so. By A LOT. These cars are recruiting tactics for young people to join the NYPD as it struggles with public image.

Fine, but when and if you decided to become a climate JUSTICE activist, you will say defunding schools for lux cars isn’t justice at all. And expanding the ability of prison and military industry is a net loss for climate.

Electric vehicles use electricity created centrally by burning fossil fuel. Expanding police, expands the carbon footprint no matter which car they drive. Throwing out older cars does too.
