Cannon’s decision does NOT halt or even really slow DOJ’s investigation.
She ruled DOJ can’t review the documents or use them.
They can easily work around that.
Instead DOJ is investigating who accessed the documents and when — which doesn’t require “using” the documents.
What is DOJ likely doing right now?
Questioning witnesses and working up various informants and other sources.
Reviewing security camera footage both from Mar-a-Lago and from the White House complex and other federal buildings where the docs were originally kept.
Also: subpoenaing and reviewing emails and texts and other communications regarding the documents.
In other words, they’re concerned with everything else about the documents, rather than the documents themselves.
DOJ can also easily add more lawyers to appeal Cannon’s decision.
They have an entire Appeals unit that will handle that — it’s a separate team of attorneys.
Plus the decision itself is ripe for being overturned — and quickly.
So anyone saying that this is going to cause some sort of horrible catastrophic delay is likely either wrong or just trying to stir things up to keep you watching/clicking.
And a bit more:
DOJ had the documents for a month. The process of photographing and dusting them for prints was done long ago.
As soon as Cannon signaled she was going to appoint a special master, DOJ knew this was coming — they’re likely 100% done “using” the documents.

BREAKING: Trump is representing HIMSELF, with no lawyer at all, in his case against the United States regarding the search of Mar-a-Lago and recovery of government records.
The legal term is “pro se” - for himself.
He could not find anyone to represent him.
Screenshot from the federal court online system:
There are attorneys on a motion, though.
So what is going on here?
Is this a publicity stunt by Trump? Or some kind of administrative snafu? Or did the attorneys file the motion without first appearing / being admitted for the case?
Stop trying to find some other “mastermind” of January 6. It was Trump.
Trump is the only person who was involved with all the various wings of the Trump Conspiracy: legal, DOJ, Pence, Congressional Republicans, Georgia, fake electors, paramilitary, Secret Service. He’s virtually alone at the middle of the Venn diagram.
The only other person who may have touched all those different facets of the conspiracy was Mark Meadows. And do you really believe that Mark Meadows was a mastermind of anything?
If Walgreens is going to support the Sedition Caucus, then I am no longer shopping at Walgreens (or, in NYC, Duane Reade, which is owned by Walgreens). Pass it on.
Just deleted the Walgreens app from my phone. Done.
Or Boots, for our friends in the UK. Boots is owned by Walgreens.
So many questions. Is Bolton getting security coverage? Were the black bags filled with documents, computers, or phones? Who is running this operation?
This would seem to be more of an executive branch op (DOJ) than the work of the January 6 committee.
