February 7, 2014, the 14-year-old Black child was murdered
And police did nothing; he was already their *target*.
For years, the Joseph family has fought for justice — to no avail.
Today, we share their story
🧵
2/7/14 was Students Day at the Florida State Fair in Tampa.
That’s when county sheriffs targeted, harassed, searched, photographed and kidnapped #AndrewJosephIII and 98 other Black children — as young as 8
And abandoned them on the side of a busy interstate, 2 miles away
After being stranded by cops 2 miles from his ride home on 2/7/14, #AndrewJosephIII was forced to cross a busy highway
And was struck and killed by a white motorist.
The cops did not arrest or even breathalyze the driver
And they didn’t call Andrew’s frantic parents.
For more than 8 years, the berieved family of #AndrewJosephIII has been fighting for justice “as the police responsible for his death elude accountability under the veil of qualified immunity” - @DocMellyMel
The person seen on video getting his head smashed in by three cops in Arkansas?
*He* is facing charges of terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, 2nd-degree battery, trespassing, aggravated assault, and possession of an instrument of crime
The perpetrators? Still employed

Minneapolis cop and convicted killer Derek Chauvin likely being at the School of the Americans while I was there protesting American imperialism is a mere blip in America’s expansive history of inextricably tying the Military and Prison Industrial Complexes 🧵
As the CIA was buying up loads of cocaine and planting crack in Black neighborhoods throughout the US, they — and every other govt institution — were also busy financing coups across Latin America and the world in the name of a War on Drugs
When it comes to police violence and the prison industrial complex, I share a lot of data, smart ideas from people smarter than me, and stories from/of those deserving amplification.
But here’s how I *know* what I say is true 🚨🧵
It was 2005. 2 years before the 1st iPhone.
I was 24, dating a Venezuelan. She was 23. We’d each ‘interacted’ with police before.
We were on our way to Maine, driving north in Massachusetts. I, a working class Jew in a Yankee hat, and she, a poor Latina. We didn’t know the road
The car wasn’t fancy, and it wasn’t beatup. I was driving. Sober.
And suddenly, without warning, the lanes shifted and traffic halted nearly to a complete stop. I quickly switched lanes to avoid rearending another vehicle.
