Name: Rukaiyya (also known as Sakina) Sukaina سكينة "Calmness, Peace of Mind"
Father: Imam Husayn-bin-Ali-bin-Abu Talib (as)
Mother: Bibi Umm-e-Rubab (the daughter of the chief of the Kinda Imra al-Qays tribe)
Birth: 20th Rajab,
Death:13th Safar, Damascus, Syria

13th Safar is the day when we remember the martyrdom anniversary of Sakina sa daughter of Imam Hussain (as) who died in the prison of Damascus after the family of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) were made prisoners after the events of Karbala and detained in the prison of Damascus.

One night Sakina (SA) was asleep and she suddenly woke up crying and started to look for her father everywhere. All the ladies tried to console her so she would stop crying but she didn't get any peace and continued crying"O my dear aunt where is my father a few minutes ago

I was with my father and he kissed me and said to me that my dear Sakina you will soon be with me. But where is my father now?"

When Bibi Sakina told her dream, all the ladies started to cry and now this noise of crying was heard by Yazid (la) at his court.

Yazid (la) sent a servant to ask why they were crying. The servant was informed that Bibi Sakina (SA) missed her father and that is why she was crying.

They informed Yazid of the situation, and Yazid, for his sadistic pleasure, sent the severed head of Imam Hussain (AS)

when Bibi Sakina received the head of her father she started to cry even more and held it very tight and asked her father, who cut off my father's head, who martyred my father, why are we held as captives?

With these words of sorrow suddenly Bibi Sakina (SA) was quiet

there was a silence in the cell Everyone thought that Sakina had finally gone to sleep again but this was not a temporary sleep,Sakina had now gone into a permanent sleep.Zainab called Zain-ul Abideen (AS) to check the status of Sakina as they thought she had fallen unconscious

When the Imam (AS) went over to check on his sister, he noticed she had stopped breathing the time when Imam Hussain(as) was martyred in the battlefield, Bibi Sakina(as) forgot to smile.Kufa saw her as a little girl forever lost in thought.Quite often she would sit up at night.

She hugged the head of Imam Hussain (as) and started telling her story
Baba! What a change it is,I used to sleep on your chest, today you are on my chest
Baba! I used to sleep on your chest but after you I could not sleep at all.
Baba! I was not given water after you left us

I was tied to the bare back of a camel.Baba! you used to hold me in your arms, then brother Akbar would take me, then my chacha Abbas would hold me and then my brother Qasim then my mother. I never laid my feet on the groud but after you Baba I was run with the camels

Baba! Whenever he wanted to
Shimr slapped and beat me.Baba! The earrings you gave me on Eid day were snatched away by Shimr My little ears are hurting from that pain till today.Baba! Baba! Baba


time for the morning prayers came. Her mother called out: "Wake up, Sakina!Wake up, it is time for prayers, my child!" There was only the painful silence!Our fourth Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (as) walked up to Sakina(as) and caressed her and put his hand on her forehead.


He put his hand near the mouth and the nose. Bibi Sakina(as) had stopped breathing. In between sobs Imam Zain-ul-Abideen(as) recited: "INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAYHI RAAJI-OON!". All the ladies of ahlul-bait gathered around and started weeping.
