Mermaids is an important & respected charity supporting Trans & non-binary youth in Britain. Today it is going to court to fight the most infamous anti-LGBT designated hate group, in these islands. They are fighting the good fight & standing up for human rights. Good luck!
This action comes in the light of a systemic anti-LGBT hate campaign by the British government & the British & Irish media. It is astonishing that a far right group, set up to promote discrimination against LGBT+ people, has charity status. More here: pinknews.co.uk/2022/09/09/lgb…
Here’s how you can help to fight against hate. Mermaids is working to help Trans & non-binary youth whilst being attacked by LGBA & it’s far right extremists: crowdjustice.com/case/transgend…
Top marks to all the hetero bigots telling a gay man that a homophobic hate group are not a hate group. The only LGBT+ people who support LGBA are far right extremists who hate themselves. 99.9% of LGBT+ people don’t need Fascist approval thanks! #NotInMyName

Royal portraiture is fascinating in that it presents how the monarch wishes to be seen by their subjects. Here’s Charles I, II & III. Majesty relies heavily on perception & artists have been central to how the image of a ruler is made. Perception can be tricky.
Daniel Mytens (1631) Charles I - the accoutrements of royalty with crown & sceptre but dressed as a gentleman with Renaissance pillar. A relatively humble image for the period. And the Duke of Buckingham, the King’s boyfriend. Royal’s love lives are never easy!
John Michael Wright (c1661) Charles II. A demonstration of power, pomp & majesty. Also shown is just one of his many mistresses - Barbara Villiers (c1665) by Sir Peter Lely.
Thread: Gender Critter tries to appropriate Queen’s death to spread hate. Then has revelation. Wait until she discovers that transphobia, in seeking to dictate others’ bodily autonomy, is the ultimate colonialism. [when she reads Elizabeth I Tilbury Speech it will blow her mind]
Tilbury was when Elizabeth I addressed her troops in 1588 as they waited to defend England against the Spanish Armada: "I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too."
As to colonialism it’s fascinating to see how some in England are taking enormous offence to others in former (& present day) British colonies who are expressing negative views on the Queen & the Monarchy. It’s all about symbolism. Something Elizabeth II understood.
Thread: One of the most historic days, in these islands, took place when Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) visited Ireland. On the 17th May 2011 she bowed her head, in Dublin’s Garden of Remembrance, in respect to all those who fought for Irish freedom from British rule.
The visit was part of the normalising of relations between these islands & was met with respect across politics, especially her acknowledgment towards all those who suffered. Each day brought startling images of an English Queen in Ireland.
“I believe that her expression of sincere sympathy for those who have suffered as a consequence of our troubled past is genuine," said Sinn Féin’s Gerry Adams at the time. Here she is escorted by the Uachtarán & Óglaigh na hÉireann in Dublin.
Good luck to the Leaving Cert students awaiting their courses today. You’ve sat the hardest exams of your life. Ignore the shockjocks opinions. They said the same auld shite™️ when I did mine in 1987! If you don’t get the course you want there are options besides repeats:
PLC courses. These can be used to get into college & having taught a theoretical maths PLC course they are a great way of transitioning from a school to a college ethos. My students got the courses they wanted. Here’s just one centre (there are many) cdcfe.ie
And there’s a lot of pressure to get into college, but it’s not for everyone. Getting a degree is no guarantee of success in getting a great job. It’s up to you what’s right for you. However, don’t give up on education - remember in later life you choose what you want to learn.
